Computer Blue Is there a computer blue thread? I'm too lazy to search there's always like a million hits anyway. Everything sounds different now. It's a great song. I've only heard a few versions. I think if I had the cruel task to pick only one song from PR that would be it. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Agreed, the most complex song on Purple Rain and he managed to graft in his father's composition into the middle of it.
The intro is supposed to be an S&M session between Wendy & Lisa also.

I know I've googled other stuff, there's just so much here. I was just wondering what people thought. Quickly. I'm sure eventually I'll read everything that's ever existed here. this site is usually a rabbit hole for me. I have only heard the album version. I think it feels longer then it is. If bootlegs exist, is there hope that cleaned up versions could surface eventually? Surprise, surprise.

That made me laugh out loud. In 32 years of listening to Computer Blue I never one visualised W&L stood at the sink with their sleeves rolled up and fairy liquid in hands. You have changed the way I listen to that intro now forever.

My all time favorite a total creative energy rush
...and we suddenly recognize the MUSIC
Father's Song is an unreleased song recorded on 29 October, 1983 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio, Chanhassen, MN, USA. It was included as the ninth track on a 7 November, 1983 configuration of Purple Rain. The song appears in the Purple Rain movie, where Prince's character "The Kid" plays the song on piano after discovering his father's sheet music for the song. The main melody was then included as a section in Computer Blue. The song itself, however, remains unreleased. - PrinceVault
Computer Blue:The song was composed by Prince & the Revolution, with credit to his father, John L. Nelson for the guitar solo based on an untitled piano piece by Nelson. Prince titled the piece "Father's Song" and recorded it on piano for the film, though on screen it was portrayed as being played by Prince's on-screen father, actor Clarence Williams III.

I love this song too. One of my all time favorites I always go back to and it's interesting to learn about his father's role in the composure. I never knew that before now. Thank u. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

The break in 'Computer Blue' that The Kid's father plays on the piano during Purple Rain is perhaps the most haunting thing ever heard on a Prince project and one of my all time favourite pieces of music, even if it is so short. Would love to learn it on the piano myself. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Awesome thanks for the background. I was able to find a couple versions online- as well as a bunch of other stuff. I really can't believe how much is out there right now. Did he play his a lot live? I've seen him a few times but I don't recall ever hearing this. Surprise, surprise.

I can play a little bit, so I might start toying around with it again. I can't read sheet music, but the starting piano chords would be something to go on. www.filmsfilmsfilms.co.uk - The internet's best movie site!

Are there any bootlegs of Father's Song out there? The only one I've found is a live cut from the City Lights series. One of my favorite P piano compositions, hearing those screeching guitars played out on the keys

One of these years Purple Rain is going to be a theatre production like Hamilton and others. It will just be so weird hearing other people sing Prince's music. Love Computer Blue, espcially his father playing it in the basement on a slighly out of tune piano in the movie. Really moving. It bothers me that both his parents lived till quite old. I suppose the 'blue' is getting to me in the title. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
