Would Love To See Some Comprehensive Prince Box Sets!

For quite a long time I've wished for some comprehesive box sets of Prince's work.

For starters, a blu-ray box set of his filmography would be very welcomed! Imagine the films Purple Rain, Under The Cherry Moon, Sign O' The Times, and Graffiti Bridge all remastered for blu-ray including never before released extras such as unseen footage and outtakes. They could be beautifully packaged with comprehensive liner notes and rare photos included in a booklet that is only available in this box set. Now that would be something!

Also, his complete discography needs be released in a box set! - that's right, all 39 studio albums plus the extras all lovingly remastered and repackaged into one epic box set for completists, and for generations of fans to come. A box set of 39+ albums may sound excessive, but Columbia Records did it for Bob Dylan in 2015, and they did it very well! Hell, that Dylan box set contains 43 albums! Forget those bulky, ugly, and fragile plastic CD jewel cases... the Prince complete discography box set should see each album beautifully repackaged in high quality cardboard digipacks - just like how they repackaged The Beatles and Dylan albums in their respective box sets. This box set should (for the first time) also include all the albums like 'Xpectation' that never saw official physical CD releases and were previously only available to download. It'd be nice if it also included live albums like 'Ç-Note' and a comprehensive double CD including Prince B-Sides, rarities, and non album tracks.

Prince deserves a release like this! He is a major artist of our times and his work needs to be preserved and shared for future generations.

Why can't someone out there do this right?! It's a damn shame that many of Prince's albums languish in obscurity and the amazing Sign O'The Times film isn't even available on DVD in the US right now! His work needs to be collated, restored, and preserved! - it's important.

I'd buy any of this stuff in a pinch if it ever becomes available.

...oh, and if you could remaster ALL of his albums for vinyl releases, that'd be awesome.

Imagine playing some of those 90s albums on sweet vinyl whilst reading the liner notes inside your gatefold copy of the Emancipation LP.

It needs to happen!

Thanks

What a comfort that the Gimmes haven't missed a beat.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Surely when WB gave P his masters back they agreed to do this?

Maybe we will see a compilation this christman, then some stuff next year? If he had left a will there would have been no delays.

now unless a will is found soon it will likely be a year or more before anything new is released.

I'm not sure how this request makes me a "gimme"?

I'm prepared to pay for all of this - literally hundreds of dollars. I've wanted this for years, I've wanted to hand over my money to Prince for quite some time - even if it meant repurchasing many albums I already own.

My main point is his body of work needs to be brought together and preserved - it's important work that needs to be done! Otherwise many of his albums will languish into obscurity and future generations will only know 'Best Of' type compilations.

Just like the ones who said,"prince knew he was dying.'

and when they do release a box set there will be fans that say, " it's not good enough or whoever put the box set together did a terrible job, it doesn't have the 10 remixes of Lets go Crazy that I know are in the vault."

Literally hundreds of dollars for literally thousands of hours of material in the vault.

What a trooper!

Yep. And 6 of them are by Kirky J. "Let's Go Crazy: The New Master." I just want the studio version of LGC Reloaded (not KJ related).

I didn't mention ANYTHING about the Vault dude... did you even read my post?

I'm talking about Prince's officially released body of work - his complete filmography and discography being collated, remastered and bought together for the first time.

The Vault is a whole other matter.

Trying to buy some Prince albums from the 90s is a pain in the ass, others near impossible!

A complete box set of his officially released work in his lifetime would be lovely

This is a red herring comment. The original post didn't put a price on anything, it simply requested that the material be made available for sale. That doesn't make anyone a "gimme".

If the material is worth $1,000 per set, sell it for that amount. If it's worth $5,000 per set, sell it for that amount.

The point is to release it, at whatever price point is appropriate. There is nothing disreseptful in fans asking for material to be made available for sale. That is quite different than fans asking for material to be leaked/distributed for free.
