So I'm listening to Orgasm for the first time in forever and I realized that Vanity is sampled on Orgasm (double checked to be sure, via prince vault). Is anyone aware of whether she approved this, or Prince just kind of did it? Denise was converted by the time this album came out, I believe.

I guess if he paid her for the original session (for the song Vibrator), he can use it wherever he likes if the contract allowed for that. He would have to pay her again though, I'm pretty sure. Maybe that's the reason he did it. In the same way it was easier to give his father song-writing credits than handouts, if the old man was too proud for the latter.

I don't think she was aware of the inclusion of the "Vibrator" sample until she listen to it.

And to be honest I ever looked at it as a bad taste joke, something P could haven't done (I think there were many moaning to sample from the Carmen Electra sessions, if he needed something similar ).

To not talk of the fact that "Orgasm" is one of the worst creation of P.

Yeah it wasn't so much of permission like he NEEDED it, she didn't own the master or publishing. More of a good taste thing. Apparently she's credited in the liner notes as "she knows" so I was curious as to whether she REALLY knew, lol.

Yeah I feel like it's a tad bad taste, unless she knew. IDK if it's the WORST creation lol but it umm fits the overall theme of tha album I guess. IDK, I'd rather do the moaning than listen to it.

She had health issues at the time, I'm pretty sure he did it so she would get some royalties.
