What album was "Pope" recorded for?

I love the song "Pope." Never cared for it before Prince's passing, but recently - it is one of those newly discovered jams for me. I read the liner notes and it wasn't really discussed. I'd love to know what the storie behind it was. I read that Bernie did the voice of the "Pope" - was it sampled? or recorded for the track?

Any information about the song would be appreciated.

Ah now, Pope is great! His rapping is always a bit of an embarrassment but you just gotta get over that and roll with it. A loop is a loop is a loop

Pope is a song from the Glam Slam Ulysses production like many of the songs that ended up the Come Album. Peach and Pope were added to the Hits Albums to give the fans something 'brand' new.

Originally it was written for sinead o'connor but after her performance on saturday night live he had second thoughts and gave her nothing compares 2 u instead.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

You are a liar, completely untrue... hahaha... spit

Prince never gave Nothing Compares 2 U to Sinead O' Connor...

They never had a thing going on until she acused Prince of being violent to her, afterwards in 1991, in the Rolling Stone Magazine.. eek

It was her manager that gave the song NC2U to Sinead...... a former P manager, maybe Fargnoli?

Why do you make things up.... crazy you..... eek lol confused

"Pope" is obviously not one of the top-notch P tracks.

But I think it would be more considered if it was released in a proper "Glam Slam Ulysses" CD release, in a specific context.

As it is, a bonus in a compilation, it sounds somewhat a throwaways track.

Pope never bothered me, but it was never a standout track either. That Glam Slam Ulysses album sounds like it would've been pretty badass though, I wonder if he might've done a bit more with Pope if it had been the closing finale on that.

A pristine quality version of the entire "Glam Slam Ulysses" is in my list of leaks wishes.

I have it only on an old bootleg called "Silver" but the sound quality is near unlistenable.

I know every track is already released, but there are some differences and it would be nice to listen to all the sequence as conceptually created.
