Damn! Count the Days is good! We love our Prince!
"Here's the church...here's the steeple...here's a mothafucker that I've gotta blow away!
Here's my chance...to cure the ills of the people...but not until I make this mothafucker pay!
And ohhhh baby I count the days!"
I'm doing this from memory...I don't have all the music I use to have!
It was on Exodus, wasn't it?
My other jam on there was "Big Fun"! Damn, "Big Fun" IS FUNKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does any one know if he ever performed those two in concert?

Those two things don't mix and that makes it fun. But I do agree that he was overdoing it with the bad language in those days. Probably a combination of his anger with WB and listening to too much hiphop.

I posted about this before and got shot down... but yep, musically wonderful, but a lyrical mess. The words and the music are mismatched more than in just about any other track I've ever heard.
It could have been great. But it isn't. It's just a crassly ode to violence. He clearly had been inhaling the chemtrails that day.

That whole album is a mess. Could have been a good 40 minute funk record, but no, he had to overload it with samples and blabla. What a waste.

Amazing album, Exodus.... Prince 4Ever.

I love Count the Days! I think the contrast of the harshly realistic lyrics mixed with the syrupy music is what makes it so great. Never seen it as an ode to violence, I took it as him counting the days until such violence described in the song no longer existed. Of course I wouldn't doubt there's also some aggression there directed towards Warner Bros. ¡The Future Is Ours, If You Can Count! https://www.youtube.com/w...A_zTY0qWWk

Exodus - My first ever bought album. Count The Days - My favourite song on it.
The White Room on Channel 4 performances - Loved them, Prince with his face covered & Mayte writhing around.
All part of my growing up days, aged 17.

There's a bootleg with an early tracklist and if you replace It Takes 3 with Return Of The Bump Squad, it's a fantastic little record.
