I can't believe he didn't own one. Yes I know he said he didn't but he has said a lot of things in interviews just to try to say something unexpected, like when he stated he couldn't drive - and then he laughed and admitted that wasn't true.

These days,cellphones can be a lifesaver.How do we know that he didn't have one?

It's not like he just collapsed in the studio. He was in the elevator, which makes me think he was trying to leave and get help but why didn't he just call 911..or call Kirk or his assitant or anyone??? I just don't get it.

The fact is that if whatever the cause of death was, it's possible it WAS that fast - even if Prince was already feeling 'bad' he may not have felt bad enough to think he was dying. If he'd had a heart arryhythmia or any kind of abnormal heartbeat issue, when that occurs you lose consciousness within seconds, and you DON'T always feel it coming on...it just does. Same thing with other medical conditions.

It's just as plausible a theory that he was going somewhere in the building for whatever reason (maybe going up to his apartment to lie down, maybe he was going to an office to retrieve something...THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW, nor is there any way to gauge "how bad" he was feeling at that moment. yes, he was no doubt feeling ill as he had been for awhile, but we can't assume the degree of how badly he felt at that moment), and in the elevator was the random place fate chose and where whatever happened, happened.

There's a chance he could have just collapsed in the elevator. Sometimes death doesn't come with a warning.

Yes of course there is a chance, but there is a slim chance that he just happened to be in the elevator feeling ok and then suddenly collapsed. Obviously he probably spent like .001% of his daily time in the elevator so would have just been more likely in the studio or in bed or wherever. I feel like he was in the elevator trying to get downstairs and get help which I hate.

Well, as he died, and if having a phone would have been a lifesaver, it's to me clear he needed one. But I guess they don't have landlines at Paisley Park either if that what's this thread is suggesting.

Cell phones don't unfortunately show your address. You'd have to advise of your location. Land lines do though, but not cell phones. That's why if you remember on the initial 911 call the doctors son made, he had to get them the address because it didn't show from a cell phone call...

Like everyone else, I'm pretty sure he had a cellphone. I cannot imagine such a guy walking around without a cellphone. Perhaps, he just said he didn't to avoid fan drama and even other celebrities bothing him.

I even believed he didn't when he was alive. Somehow, I think we were all gullible to anything he said and believed him whole-heartedly until he said otherwise on a bunch of things. But, now, him saying he didn't have a cellphone I realize was just obvious bs.

C'mon. The guy was on Twitter, owned a Mac, and an iPad - he mostly likely had an iPhone too.

He said on his latest interview with Arsenio he did not own a cell phone. He didn't need one as everyone else around him had one. I don't see why he would lie about that.

Kevin Smith thought Prince didn't have pockets until Prince produced a pocket bible as if from nowhere.

He may have owned a cell phone (probably did; who doesn't nowadays?), but the sheriff in the press conference said there was no cell phone in the elevator.
