Going to see a 35mm screening of Sign o' the Times tomorrow!

Just had to share my excitement with all you purple hippies. I've never seen this film in the cinema before, and it's an actual print, too!

Royal cinema, Toronto, tomorrow, 5pm. Any and all interested parties should come on down! cool

Nice! Tell Royal Cinema to send the print Montreal's way when you're done housequaking.

I really hope they start showing this in other regions as well. This is the one I most want to see on the big screen.

Man I'm super envious, this is definitely the one I'd like to see in a cinema with some awesome speakers. They don't really make theatrically released concert films anymore so it's not something I've ever got to experience for myself sad

It will hopefully catch on and show everywhere. My bluRay of PR is gorgeous, so I didn't rush out for that one, but hell yea I'd go to the theater to see SOTT.

That should be The New Power Generation's Rocky Horror. That would be amazeballs.

They selling copies of that one on Amazon for 2Gs!!!

Warners should love him right now. Like LOOOOOVE him.

And guys, in the end- our guy forgave them. We should too.

I'd go see that big screen once a month.

Have a flipping blast! That concert is Definitive!
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

I saw this last December at Quentin Tarrantino's movie theater in L.A.

The colors looked amazing, and it did look different then the HD blu-ray I know so well. But if you can afford it, I highly do recommend the official blu-ray. you gave to get it from Australia or Japan.

I was thinking about getting this yesterday, and saw that there was a version listed on UK Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/...es+blu+ray

Does anyone know which version this is? Nothing seems to indicate it's an import in the description, but I wasn't aware there was a proper UK Blu-ray release, can anyone help me identify this one?

That does look exactly like the Australian one I have as far as the cover and graphic design. But I don't know for sure. I just ordered the deluxe Japanese one. Pricey, but I know in the future, I will love having it!

Ah okay, thank you, it does seem to be the correct Blu-ray region for Australia as well, and all the versions sold by other sellers appear to be shipped from Australia or New Zealand so it seems likely that it is the Australian version.

That Japanese version does look gorgeous, but it's listed on Amazon for £90 and I couldn't ever really justify that cost, really pretty though!

Well I've just come back from this event and man, what a delight.

The theatre was pretty much full except for the extreme front seats (you know, the ones nobody ever wants to sit in). There was a looping slide show of Prince pics on the big screen, and the sound system was absolutely banging out an all-Prince playlist... most of the best tracks from Crystal Ball '98, as well as Bob George, Rave, and a boot, Semi-A-Collia HOW HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE TODAY sorry, went off on a little tangent there.

There was a little speech about the house's festival of music films, and a goodie bag giveaway (non-Prince related), then the lights went down... and, surprise! The Purple Rain trailer! Very low-res (probably the dvd), but still a treat. Forgot how many unused shots are in that trailer. Then (and you're gonna love this) the trailer for 'The Nigerian Purple Rain'! Yes folks, this film actually exists, and it looks like a hoot. It's basically just PR filmed in Nigeria, if you can imagine that. It's actually going to be playing on a double bill with PR on June 7, but it's already sold out. Fun fact: there's apparently no word for 'purple' in the Nigerian language, so the title of the film is 'Rain, the Colour Blue with a Bit of Red In It'. falloff

Then on with the show! I was worried the film would be less than loud. Wrong. It was bangin'. The print was quite dirty in places, but that only added to the gritty 'street' vibe of the show. No noticeable scratches or breaks.

But the real highlight for me was seeing this film with a room full of people that I didn't already know. We cheered when the songs ended. We cheered when they began! We cheered every solo. When Cat told us to clap our hands, we clapped our hands. A lot of people seemed not to be expecting all the jokes in the show, and they laughed in all the right places, and I laughed right along with 'em. And man... you should have heard the ladies gasp when the lights came up on Prince in his 'Hot Thing' outfit! lol

When the credits rolled, I turned to my 16 year-old son (who had never seen a Prince film before and isn't really a big music guy) and said, "I'm gonna miss that little dude." He looked at me, kind of wide-eyed, and said, "I think I am, too!" touched

It was just an absolutely sublime moment in the cinema... I can say I've never felt such kinship in a crowd before, not even at an actual concert. If it comes to your town, round up everyone you know, and GO! cool

confused

The Japanese deluxe blu-ray is still only $100... why would anyone buy a DVD of it for that much? It's like putting the blu-ray in a dryer and shrinking it.
