I'd prefer to see an exhibit of his heels as they evolved from the late 1970s all the way through the 2010s If a man is considered guilty

HatrinaHaterwitz said: There are already several Prince items enshrined in the Smithsonian. Stephen Colbert showed the display on his Comedy Central show a few years ago. And I thank you for that. Made my night a little better. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

As someone else posted above, and as the Colbert video shows, Prince's Yellow Cloud guitar is already in the Smithsonian. I went to law school near Washington, D.C., and was up there when the Yellow Cloud went into the Smithsonian in the mid-1990s. I made several trips to the museum for the sole purpose of seeing that guitar and was always amazed by how beautiful its details were. I would leave the museum and then dream about that guitar for days.
When I saw it, the guitar was behind a glass display case with shelves along with other items from American music history (not like the full display with other items in the Colbert video). I remember being really pissed off that the museum had Prince's iconic guitar but yet couldn't really find a proper way to display it. It was lying on the bottom shelf of the display with no special attention paid to it.
The cool thing was that I got to study the guitar during my time up there and was separated from it by only the thickness of the glass in the display case. Until I saw it in person I never realized that the fret markers were actually the O+> symbol. An amazing and beautiful piece of music history.

The cloud guitar is iconic and beautiful. Also quite classy. It speaks to Prince at his peak. At his most creative.
The symbol guitar is more of a post peak symbol. It kinda speaks of Prince at a time when he was past his prime and needed gimmicky tacky symbols. Literally. As a post music-as-serious-art and more of as a derivative spectacle for the derivative music he was releasing. They all make perfect pieces to differentiate the different Prince's. Like the sparkly Vegas Elvis jumpsuits signal a different Elvis. Each serve as placeholders. •The Hohner- Young raw Prince. •The Cloud- Sexy Prince at his peak. •The Symbol- Vegas Elvis Prince. I'd say the Blue Angel guitar, frequently used during the Lovesexy Tour. 'Liberate My Mind'
