This sucks Man, I thought I was coming to terms with this, then I watched a few clips on youtube...
Prince and Kendrick Lamar. Great collaboration.
Prince on American Idol: This one really shook me. It was everything. The surprise, the command of the audience and wow of the crowd. It was like music Jesus just blessed American Idol with his greatness, and then walk straight to his limo and left. It was everything that made Prince....Prince
Prince at Montreux: Shredtacular greatness
and many many more.
His appearances were epic.....all of them.
And now its over.
This sucks.

maybe that's the reason he held onto that stuff, so when he was gone, there would be plenty of unseen stuff. Watching it, I think, as a musician "Why put the work he obviously did into this if he didn't want it seen by as many people as possible". The voices of people who said he "jumped the shark" with lovesexy or this or that are growing softer and softer with P's death.

LoveSexywas an incredible album. It's funny to me that people want Artists to just keep putting out copies of their last album. I love hearing Artists evolve. I don't think it's an accident that the cover of Parade actually says "Evolution" Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

I started a thread about how much I LoveSexy, but when I listen to ArtOfficialAge, I hear how he stayed true to himself and took it to the 21st century... [Edited 5/12/16 13:21pm]

there were albums i liked more than others, sure, but when I first listened to hnr I thought, "this is the same feeling I used to get when I first listened to Controversy". he never lost it, WE did. And that's not to say everything he did was genius, but more than enough was.

I remember a number of friends that loved PR were COMPLETELY and acutely turned off by ATWIAD and never really got back into him. But I think what helped me understand what he was doing came from knowing his progression from the first two R&B albums, to the punk-funk of DM, to the....whatever you classify Controversy as, to the in-your-face-funk of 1999, to the pop masterpiece of PR. I wasn't surprised. I was expecting something in the mold of even more overt funk, but was ready to open up and listen to it. I think that's what Prince was all about when it is all said and done. Challenging people. Lovesexy was definitely one of those turning points as well.

Knowing that he loved putting hidden messages in stuff like album art and videos and songs, and also that he buried two time capsules (one in the UK near the old NPG store?), I think it's a safe assumption that he did like the idea of mysterious things and for certian things to be discovered after he was gone.
Let's hope that some incredible will or at least instructions for his work are found! My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I really just think he didn't care for the humongousness of Purple Rain and wanted to alienate the pop fans. He also didn't want to get stuck with the pressure to "Beat It" as Michael Jackson had to deal with for five years between Thriller and Bad. A pressure which was really pointless and silly. So while Michael was stuck putting out Albums that mimicked Thriller, Prince did whatever the fuck he wanted. Both Brilliant but I think history will be more generous to Prince.

Back when Art Official Age was released, I started a thread about how it was a 21st Century Lovesexy, but didn't get much traction.

And I think you're right, we were the ones who lost it- although for me, I loved everything the Artist put out. Some more than others though for sure. But admittedly his antics and his JW stuff frustrated me. He was no follower, he was a pioneer. But I get why he went there and sadly, he seemed to be getting himself back in recent years. I'm REALLY loving Hit and Run 2... I listen to it and think dang he's back!! Oh wait... ***Commence uncontrollable sobbing *** I really still just can't believe he is gone. Way too fast, baby. I rarely say things aren't fair, this however is not fair. Surprise, surprise.

Oh yeah! I dug out the show with 'Empty Room' on from 2009 tonight. So many deep cuts on that, underperformed gems. 'When the lights go down'? come on now.

Indeed it does suck - illegal immigrants are encouraged to come in droves to my country and exploint the Constitution, my house is not worth half of what I paid for it 10 years ago, I cant get a decent full time job even with a MBA and military service, my little niece has to sit next to a grown man in a dress in the public restroom, our president helps everyone except the people who backed him the most - at our expense, true manhood is now considered criminal, and I am 25 times more likely to be killed by police than my Caucasian best friend...and on top of all that, the only thing that gave me some fleeting relief from this miserable existence in this godless world is gone.
I will never recover. [Edited 5/13/16 4:32am] Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

You nailed it. All his work was great, I didn't love it all, but I did appreciate it all for being uniquely Prince. . And then the last 4 albums from the 3EG/Josh era had him showing lots of new inspiration. "Black Muse".. and then it's over. . Rest In Peace, beautiful one "..free to change your mind"

for me there really were only two artists I would listen to each and every album, one was Bruce the other was Prince. Both were capable of just blowing you away out of the blue, just like it did on their best songs. In Bruce's case, he'll bring me to tears, in Prince's case It's more like you're listening to a magician of sound.
