Anyone Else Think Prince Planned 4 HitNRun CDs? You know cuz of those 4 photos. After HitNRun 1 tanked and he struggled getting Phase 2 distributed he might have had second thoughts but Phase 3 might have been a rock album and Phase 4 might have been?

The Tidal header of his artist page showed 5 of these pictures, so if this is true, there were at least 5 Phases planned.

I sort of thought this might have been a way for Prince to get out vault tracks and other minor works in between "real" albums for WB.

who's to say they're not ready to go under his instruction She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

He might have another all ready to go. Had Tidal announced it right away, some may have accused them of cashing in, so it could get announced yet. Not sure I care either way, given we all know there's a ton of stuff there anyway.

I think this is likely... there could have been several "in the can" and ready to go.

Gut feeling says at least Phase 3. There's probably a complete mixtape of it in the vault. Or atleastnotes. Prince was always "making albums" even if he only released a fraction of them. [Edited 5/9/16 16:22pm]

i know he was making albums, because people that have worked as studio techs have said so. I was at a film festival and one guy who had worked at a studio said his boss had worked for Prince once for a whirlwind week where a great album was put together. an entire album. And he said it never was talked about or surfaced. this was pre-1997 My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

He mentioned that a live release was in the works of his Microphone & Piano Tour featuring some from the Atlanta shows.

It would be awesome if there we additional phases planned. I'm just now hearing the Hit N Run project in its entirety for the first time today. Been bumping it since I got to work this morning. I'm beyond impressed. Both phases are really solid, start to finish for me.
And I was even more pleasantly surprised to find re-workings of previously vaulted (or protege artist released) tracks. Though I still prefer the original versions of 1000 Hugs & Kiss and Extraloveable. "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

Actually, it's kind of interesting, because assuming that Hit N Run was intended to be more than two phases, AND if the avatar images are any indication, then the content of the next three phases COULD'VE been live shows, vaulted tracks, or reworked vaulted tracks, or vaulted albums from the era that the avatars represent. As others have said, Phase 1 and 2 feel like quickly released collections of recently recorded songs, rather than his more usual "concept" album releases. (A bit like the NPGMC albums in fact) . So, who know how many he planned? Or whether there was much planning at all!? I feel these were just quick ways to get these songs out... and maybe just to get cash from an easy deal with Tidal.

james said: Or whether there was much planning at all!? I feel these were just quick ways to get these songs out... and maybe just to get cash from an easy deal with Tidal. Ah you mean "HIT N RUN" Makes sense. As to other posts above, if he did leave "instructions" then that assumes he knew he was going to die and if so then why aren't there "instructions" regarding the Vault or indeed a Will? Don't get me wrong I would LOVE it if all the above speculation was true but alas I think it is just that, speculation. Hmm. I mean they're definitely not as concepty lyric wise as some previous releases, though I need a few more listens to confirm that. But musically it's all very cohesive and in that way they do feel planned, even if the goal at the start of recording wasn't to create this specific project. I think this is true... even the name sort of implies how they were put together and released. It sort of gave Prince a side outlet to get songs out that didn't end up as part of a major release.

The sudden, 3 month gap between phases could potentially have meant he planned to release 5 Hitnrun albums over 12 months for his deal with Tidal. One can only hope that Tidal paid him up front and Prince has already prepared the albums... but Hitnrun Phase 3 won't be his first posthumurous release. There's more money in a different kind of release, so we might have to wait a while. [Edited 5/14/16 15:45pm] Nobody I know gun' bite
