That's how I feel, that this didn't have to happen. The hospital should have kept him there if he was in such serious condition for the plane to make an emergency landing. Not sure but I believe you cannot leave a hospital if you're in serious condition. ugh it's just all so senseless.

Yes. That's the most annoying and tragic thing. And that really everything they accomplished in life, everything they were and stood for, gets overshadowed (at least in the mind of the public, who can't differentiate) by the way they died.
