Past or present tense?

Do you all still refer to him in the present tense, or past? I didn't realize it until a friend told me the other day, "Have you noticed you still talk about him as if he's still here?" Is/does instead of was/did. I don't think it's a bad thing, maybe subconsciously I still refuse to believe he's gone. But I did find it interesting. What about you all?

If anyone truly lives on through their music, it will be MJ and Prince. No one's listening to "Jailhouse Rock" 30+ years after, but I guarantee you in another 30 years, some station, somewhere is going to be playing "When Doves Cry", because even by 2046, it'll be as unique then as it was in 1984.

I always hate it when people talk about the past in the present tense (in 1815 Napoleon fights at Waterloo... No! Fought!) so... Yeah... Past tense... As sad as it is, that's the way it is. Saying Prince or Jimi Hendrix is a great guitar player... It's just not right.

Nonsense. People still listen to Elvis and dance to his music. Same with Bob Marley. Prince and Jackson really aren't more special than Elvis, Bob, Marvin, Otis or Jimi. They all did great things and all of them will live on through their music.

I meant that Elvis was just kind of rock n' roll. He wasn't the kind of varied virtuoso that Prince was, or even MJ to a limited extent. Of course they all live through their music. I just think Prince is a bit bigger in the grand scheme.

Both. But when I use the past it doesn't sound right.

I've caught myself a few times using the present tense.

When I see his face on the news, for a brief second I get excited for "Prince news" and then I realize that he's gone and this is just investigation stuff.

It doesn't. Clearly I'm still in denial.
