Elvis Costello lauds Prince's stance on streaming

In the UK free newspaper The Metro (free at train stations) there is an interview with Elvis Costello. The last question saw him raise Prince...

Are streaming services making it difficult for musicians to earn a living?

I don't understand how new artists can sustain themselves from streaming operations. All artists have been sold out by corporate interests that own the rights to our recordings. Why are they handing it over to middle men who don't have anything other than gadgets or algorithms to deliver the music to us? How does a new artist have a chance of earning a living? They have to play every gig they can to earn some money. It's cheating new artists of the chance of developing at their own speed. And it's cheating the listener because they are being sold an inferior product by record companies who know better. Prince was right about everything. Among his many other talents he saw the business model for what it was way before everyone else. It's very sad to lose someone who had that sort of vision because he challenged how things were.
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I've been waiting to hear EC say something about our boy.

I've always wished Prince had appeared on 'Spectacle'... though his answers to questions would probably have been frustrating. lol

Cool to hear that from Costello, even after Prince turned him down to release a cover of Pop Life.

It's too bad NO ONE was supporting his revolutionary stances when he was alive.

He didn't take it personally.

He sang "Moonbeam Levels" at that New York show a couple years back, didn't he?

I would have liked to see a musician interview him in the studio where they'd perform together and have a casual conversation about music.

Elvis had been part of Warners in the late 80s-early 90s so he was there when Prince started having problems with the label, so there would have been some "insider" discussions about what was going on.

Have you ever watched Spectacle? That's pretty much exactly what the show was, but in front of a crowd. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out!
