Ahmir or Amir, beautiful name regardless.
When I first heard this, I wondered what Questlove would think, as his name is also Ahmir.
I imagine that Prince's son would have musical chops, as it runs in the family. Both of Prince's parents were musicians/singers, and even Mayte herself had some chops. Not to mention that being immersed in that lifestyle might rub off on the child . . .

I also thought of Questlove, and how that might have been for Prince to have a younger man with his son's name who idolized him. Kind of a sweet coincidence.

Bob Marley is practically the face of jamaican music and all his kids are musicians and they have made marks in the industry. Jayne Mansfield had an IQ of 163 and was probably one of the most underused and misused actresses of her time period. However Jayne made history by being in the first real rocknroll movie with "The Girl Cant Help It". Mariska Hargitay is a very good actress too and basically is the reason why SVU didnt get canned after Meloni left. SVU has been on for 17 years. Afeni Shakur was a revolutionary with the black panthers with ambitions to change the world. Tupac was a revolutionary with a brilliant mind who actually did come close to changing the world. The mankiewcz's were reasonable for some of the greatest films from the classic era of the genre(Citizen Kane! All About Eve! Strange Cargo!). The descendants of Joseph and Herman are still working in hollywood today. Hell, Johann Sebastian Bach had like 20 kids with his cousin and they were all accomplished musicians. I am listing all of these examples to show you that geniuses do have children. Geniuses do procreate. Being a genius is hereditary for some people while others pick it up later on. Ahmir might have not been mensa smart but he definitely would have not been the village idiot. You dont grow up with a unbelievably smart talented papa and a very talented yet giving mama and not pick up some stuff. Whether Ahmir went into the music industry or decided to help Mayte by trying to save every abandoned dog on the planet with the rescue, i think he would have been a good man. A happy and well adjusted good man with a lot of potential to do some real good in the world. The only good thing about this whole tragedy with Prince is that he is finally with his little boy.
I just watched Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter (1957) last night with Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall. Great film Mariska gets her good looks from her and Mr Universe Mickey Hargitay
Eddie Van Halens son Wolfgang Van Halen plays several instruments like his papa..not sure he's the innovator or master like his famous dad is on electric guitar (he played drums and now officially is the bass player) but he is very musical...Valerie Bertinelli is his mama...he didn't go into acting at all though. Amir was a perfect name for their baby. Beautiful. I can see why Prince did not want the name of his son banded around in the press at the time. He was such a private person. I lost my own baby boy through premature labour just after Prince and Mayte lost Amir and then I miscarried too. Unlike the death of another family member who is known to so many, the death of a baby that was only known to the parents is such a private grief. By the time of their passing you have known them so long, kicking away and moving around inside of you. You also have so many hopes and dreams for them and your life has been shaped by their existance.
I feel so sad for Prince and Mayte though. We were both severely traumatised following the death of our son. The way we coped with the trauma was so very different to each other and we could not support each other. You just have to get through it your own way as it is an all encompassing pain that eats away at you. Good friends got me through the roughest part of it and I am so grateful to them (I must have been an awful friend to have for a long while). I knew my husband was going through the pain in a very different way as he could not open up about his feelings but made lots of memorials to our son. We are more at peace with it now but it still hurts us both after all these years. He talks about it more than I do now. I could not imagine the pressure of the press intruding into such a personal tragedy, especially with those evil nannies involved. Who were they to judge the parents of this child? How cruel people were commenting on their behaviour. It is not a time for others to be judgemental.
The miscarriage was less painful for us but we still questioned how many times we could live through that sort of pain. I don't think I could have kept on trying. It hurt too much. I could not imagine the strain of having to put on a brave face for a public show through it all.
I didn't know Prince or Mayte so I can't comment on their relationship but they seemed sweet together. Prince had said back in the mid 80's he wanted kids (I seem to remember from somewhere) and he talked about having 10 (I think it was) on Oprah. It is so sad that they did not get the large family they so wanted. Prince seemed to turn to the JW's and Mayte to the dogs and now her daughter. It certainly leaves a hole in your heart that needs filling with something. I can see why Mayte hasn't moved on very well from those times. I lost my religion a long time ago so I don't relate to the JW thing but I hope it brought Prince peace (although his songs have been so sad of late) as Gia seems to be doing for Mayte. |

It is Arabic, but remember, Prince was very into Arabic themes while with Mayte. .
So much so I thought she was Arabic! When I saw her last name was Garcia I was like what!? Confusion!
That's almost as bad as Kevin Smith thinking her name was pronounced "Mate." As in "This is my mate." Making matters worse for the guy, he made the gaffe in front of Prince. |

If this is true, clearly no understanding of the History of the Arab slave trade in Africa or the modern day colonization or practices either. |

I remember Questlove telling the story of when he met Prince. He said Prince told him what his name meant. To know that would be the name of his son is amazing |

Ahmir..?
sounds a bit strange to me - as an european it sounds middleeastern..
hmmm I have to get used to that.. I think.

That makes sense since Mayte was a belly dancer (Arabic) and Daddy was Prince. It breaks my heart. If only they had been surrounded with loving parents to guide them through life's troubles. But, it seems like they were surrounded with people who were using them - Larry trying to convert Prince with Religion and Mani trying to seduce him. Their story is more tragic than Romeo and Juliet!
Has anyone heard anythin about a Prince Love Child? I read that a yong singer Capriccio Ceasar ac companied Prince and the 3rd Eye Girl and looks like him rumors were that he was Prince's son - but I can't find any confirmation - does anyone know? |
