It is Arabic, but remember, Prince was very into Arabic themes while with Mayte.

.

So much so I thought she was Arabic! When I saw her last name was Garcia I was like what!? Confusion!

Spain has a prominent Arab influence from its language to its architecture. Mayte's Puerto Rican but she is of Spanish descent so that's why she may appear to be Arabic.

Ahmir Gregory Garcia Nelson..that is beautiful. That boy would be like 19 now and more than likely a musical genius like his papa. I really hope that Mayte is holding up well and knows that a lot of people are wishing her nothing but the best. Last night must have been torture for that poor woman.

The 'Gregory' was just a name to protect the identity of Mayte and the baby. Gregory was never the actual name.

Black father and Spanish Mother. I think the whole cairo thing comes from Mayte being offered a chance to dance there and then turning it down when Prince asked her to join the NPG.

Nope. She's Boricua - both parents are Puerto Rican.

I always just called him Gregory. His middle name. Everyone knows that when you haven't decided a name yet, or haven't made it official that you put boy or girl on the birth certificate.

They probably didn't want to leave their best first choice name with someone who wouldn't leave a legacy, make its mark on the world (basically "waste that name on someone who won't go on to be their prodigy). They maybe wanted to keep it to themselves for a living baby. Some grieving parents do this. It's not mean or abnormal. But then sometime later they feel too creeped out to name their rainbow baby the old name, so then they end up not using it at all. The baby after the deceased baby is called a rainbow baby (rainbow children?!)

Also in some cultures you don't even name the baby for 8 days.
No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ prince. He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take prince away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

The fact the name Gregory was used totally brings to mind the lyric, "Gregory looks just like a ghost...". They're both on the other side now.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

That was not the baby's middle name - it was just an alias last name, made up by their employees who helped check Mayte in.

No one has ever revealed publicly the real names of the child ... until now, by Mayte.

It wss basically just some woman revealing that last night at Prince's super secret memorial, Mayte let it slip that her baby boy's name was Ahmir. People have thought for years that the baby's name was boy gregory cause that is what the mojica twins told the public inadverently through a newspaper.

I love the name. I'm glad she finally revealed it publicly. It must be a huge weight lifted from her shoulders.

I keep thinking it must have been awful for her all these years to feel like she couldn't speak her own child's name. I couldn't imagine that honestly. Having people assume that your child's name was Boy Gregory when it was really something else. I know she's struggled with Ahmir's death over the years. Hopefully being free of that secret will help her heal.

The correct spelling is AMIR accorging Mayte and those who attended the L.A. Tribute Memorial.

I initially posted the question if it was spelled Amir or Ahmir, but I didn't expect an answer because I thought it'd be too intrusive. Thanks for the clarification, it's a beautiful name.

NOT likely. How many geniuses have had children? The majority. How many have gone on to contribute anything to the field in which their genius parent toiled? Very few. What about Einstein's kids? Genius is not genetic.

Frank Sinatra was smart and his kids went into the entertainment industry and did well for themselves. Nancy is actually still releasing albums and she is like 70.

Bob Marley is practically the face of jamaican music and all his kids are musicians and they have made marks in the industry.

Jayne Mansfield had an IQ of 163 and was probably one of the most underused and misused actresses of her time period. However Jayne made history by being in the first real rocknroll movie with "The Girl Cant Help It". Mariska Hargitay is a very good actress too and basically is the reason why SVU didnt get canned after Meloni left. SVU has been on for 17 years.

Afeni Shakur was a revolutionary with the black panthers with ambitions to change the world. Tupac was a revolutionary with a brilliant mind who actually did come close to changing the world.

The mankiewcz's were reasonable for some of the greatest films from the classic era of the genre(Citizen Kane! All About Eve! Strange Cargo!). The descendants of Joseph and Herman are still working in hollywood today.

Hell, Johann Sebastian Bach had like 20 kids with his cousin and they were all accomplished musicians.

I am listing all of these examples to show you that geniuses do have children. Geniuses do procreate. Being a genius is hereditary for some people while others pick it up later on.

Ahmir might have not been mensa smart but he definitely would have not been the village idiot. You dont grow up with a unbelievably smart talented papa and a very talented yet giving mama and not pick up some stuff. Whether Ahmir went into the music industry or decided to help Mayte by trying to save every abandoned dog on the planet with the rescue, i think he would have been a good man. A happy and well adjusted good man with a lot of potential to do some real good in the world. The only good thing about this whole tragedy with Prince is that he is finally with his little boy.

I just watched Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter (1957) last night with Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall. Great film thumbs up! Mariska gets her good looks from her and Mr Universe Mickey Hargitay lol

No! On the Act II tour in 1993 she spoke a little "german" on stage while their concerts in germany. And it was laughable to be honest. I understood what she was trying to say, but she has a lot of homework to do.
