What a testament to Prince, that nothing but kind words have been spoken about him.

I was thinking the same thing.... X

Though I'm sure certain shameless book deals are being discussed as we speak :/

Thanks for posting. So nice that we're getting to see a different side to him from the people that work for him. The pat about the purple Harley made me well up a bit. Such a lovely present

Very nice interview. Thanks for posting!

I wonder if Prince had all those weird contract restrictions ("don't look at or talk to him") just *in case* a temporary employee turned out to be stalkerish or bothered him too much? He obviosuly didn't apply them to this driver.

Clearly Prince was open and very generous with people he liked and trusted. i also love tht he gave the guy a purple harley afte hearing the story. Aw!

I believe it was those around him that established those rules, trying to create the enigma, the mystique. Prince has always revealed himself as a great human being, funny, caring and loving. All these testaments to his behaviour are very beautiful to read.

Great story! I loved how the bus driver went the extra mile with the flowers, GPS contacts and the concert DVD. This is how he gained P's trust and was able to have convos with him....and getting a Harley out of the deal wasn't bad at all!! It's the simple things that take you far.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Exact opposist of what we heard when he was alive.

Maybe the last decade or so he mellowed from the tyrant who bullied the NPG in the 90's?

I like these comments from "ordinary" people. People he had no reason to want to impress, it shows you his true character. He wanted perfection from himself and others but he was kind and thoughtful too.

Most of the negative heard was at this very sight, by people who were never involved with the man. Sure, there were business issues that came but but thats standard for any artists that is basically a conglomerate. Lot of people ran with those typical stories and made it out that Prince was an evil person.

Well, we know there is a DVD because the concert was filmed & shown in movie theaters, as a special event. I think it was a show filmed in Los Angeles at the Staples center, which was one of the first dates on the tour. It's since been leaked on the internet many times over.

prince

But Prince always recorded his shows. Those stories of him watching the show go back decades. He'd sometimes sit the band down and make them watch certain parts or note certain things (eg: Revolution, early NPG days).

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think it's cause & effect. Mistakes made in the 80s & 90s taught him lessons that led to a more mellow vibe in his 40s and 50s.

This is not negative at all towards Prince, bless him and RIP. It's the maturing process we all go through.

Such strange instructions, but thereafter one gets a feeling that Prince wanted to just be normal and sit in the bus like regular folk. Nice reflections... Everyone talks about how kind he was. And thoughtful in his gifts.

Great read, and super cool that he got a purple Sportster as a tip at the end of the tour!

Prince just really expected and appreciated professionalism at all levels. As he should've.

You know, I've read these same stories of not being allowed to look at him about Bob Dylan, so either these stories take a life of their own or these people (Bob/Prince) are tired of everybody staring at them.

All of it I'm sure. I mean there's always the distortion of personal perception and the nuance of personal experience. But certain things are common through all the narratives (both positive and negative). So yeah, Prince was human. And humans are dynamic and complex.

That's true. And quite frankly, I've noticed this w/ family members, MOST people tend to mellow out as they age. And that's even more true for people that dive into religion/spirituality. Some of the stories I recall hearing about my grandma when she was raising my mom and her sisters, maaan lol I wouldn't have wanted to grow up under her. But she mellowed out A LOT in her old age. She was still strict and demanded respect, but some of the meaness (or what could be interpreted as meaness) had passed.

In my experience, as you get older you are more aware of time becoming more limited, and start to realise what is and isn't important in life. It says so much about Prince that he was gracious and kind towards his employees and actively spent time with them.

Lovely to read, thank you for posting it.

Yes, it struck me that the bus driver says, he thought the stuff about his Harley went in one ear and out the other, but then Prince listened and remembered. I recall one of his ladies said in an old interview that he's a good listener, and thoughtful gift-giver.

His hand-written notes that we've seen over the years (including recently, the one to Bruno Mars and Mars shared) also show his thoughtfulness, personal touches.

He wasn't aged though. Musicology was over a decade ago.

Anyway I am so thankful that people who actually interacted with him are sharing fond memories in contrast to the way he was often talked about on the org.
