Some of the people involved in putting this together reached out to me about 10 days ago which is when I gave the quote and an audio recording. The audio was also used in the tribute video at the service. I broke down all over again when I saw it. I don't think I've ever felt so humbled in my life. I am proud to represent all of us and the org.

Interesting that they did this without his Siblings being included, or wait for them to organise an official memorial.
And explains the slightly bizarre statement from Tyka about non-offical memorials (as far as we knew there weren't any!)... It sounds slightly bitchy in the context of this now happening. She clearly was pissed about it.
.
But it seems that lots of people that knew Prince quite well turned up to this anyway. Which perhaps says something about their thought about his family... maybe!??
Just my opinion, but they still should have at least reached out to some of his family members to attend, and should understand that his siblings are still grieving. I mean it was nice of them to do a memorial. I think reaching out to his actual family, would have been the respectful thing to do, even if they denied the invitation. I could understand his family members trying to protect their brother from those who probably weren't around as his friends, in the last 2 or 3 years of his life, and only showing their faces now.
I think this was their way of having their own memorial for Prince as they were not invited to the one in Minn.
Seems their is a divide between his old friends and the family. Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up |

i can't believe anyone would have a problem with the people who were in his life, some who were family, some from the beginning of his career, some who were major influences on his music, some who were married to him and bore his child, some who knew him better than many others, are having their motives for a memorial in his honor questioned by fans who didn't know him at all. unbelievable! The service sounded wonderful. I'm sad it wasn't televised so we could all see it.
Personally, I dont get why so many fans weren't in favor of the memorial. Honoring someone you love is never a bad thing. Kudos to Mayte, Manuela & everyone for coming together to make the tribute happen.
I truly hope many of the same attendees will be on hand for the public memorial. As a fan, I will feel cheated otherwise. Time and distance doesnt minimize the events of the past. [Edited 5/13/16 9:07am]

Self serving is about overused
Self servering how? To say goodbye with memories combining people who knew worked with a love him? Head dead? what actually is self serving about a memorial?
Get real man

I was not trying to be disrespectful with my comments. I just hope it was nothing like Michaels memorial where there were a bunch of celebrities there that were not close with him and were just kinda there for "show/attention". Your right I dont know how close Prince was with any of these people but I hope that some of these celebrities showing up have sincere intentions because I know how some celebs are. I said the memorial seemed like it was nice overall.Sorry if my comments came off disrespectful because I really miss Prince and care about him deeply. I am just giving my thoughts on what it kinda seemed to me for some of them, thats all.

From what I read over the years, it was Prince that no longer wanted to live with his mom and his step dad, and it was Prince whom asked Andre if he could live with him and his mom. Tyka was just as young as Prince during this time, and was probably living at home also. His family was always there, and none of us know what the real situation was, so you just can't take Prince's side and blame his family. Blood may mean nothing to you, but it does to some! Maybe Prince's family wanted to be close to him and he pushed them away, who knows? That doesn't mean that they didn't care about him. [Edited 5/13/16 10:41am] |

Prince left his mom and step dads home because of the way things were there for him. Then when he moved back in with his dad, his father put him out (his sister told him to beg to get back in) and his dad wouldn't. Prince said that was the last time he cried(this was from a 1985 interview

I said this before and I will say it again. Have you ever been in the hospital with a loved one, not eating or drinking all day and you find a vending machine???? Do you really care what you look like?? Well, she spent the whole day dealing with a death and cremation.. Why are you focusing on a bag of cheetos when she had a really crappy 48 hours. Maybe she was going to pass out. --
Hopefully yours is the kind of comment he is now laughing at from heaven.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't have the opportunity to grieve as the others, but it just doesn't seem right to me, them making a whole memorial service like the family of the decease does normally, it just seems kind of disrespectful to me, that's all, and not their place.
i thought it was disrespectful for his sister to be carrying out bags of cheetos and the kid to be hiding his ashes under a jacket after the rushed cremation and service that very few loved ones in his life was invited to.

That is truly sad. I also just read on FB that Prince's family is considering taking legal action against people that are proffitting off his death with the RIP merchandise. Who would want a t-shirt saying RIP? But it seems they are selling like hot cakes. People, huh? |
