A very close friend of mine was in attendance at this private memorial and said it was absolutely beautiful!

Love this:
Wendy said: "He had an ability to make you want to be your best self. Every note I've played since then, I've thought, 'Would he like that?'" She also said he liberated her. "He was a great girl," she said. "He was a better girl than me. But he saw me as a musician. And now I don't see myself as a female musician; I'm a musician." She said the best way to remember him was to be creative. "Being creative is how you can talk to him," she said. "If you're being creative, he will talk to you.

It sounds like it was nice but my only criticism of these memorials once a celebrity dies is that, why are all these people who had not seen the said celebrity in years allowed to speak at their memorial? I could see it if he was friends with his exes like he was with Sheila but why does his ex wives have a right to put this together when they werent even on speaking terms with Prince at the time of his death? Just seem weird to me and all for show.

Wow, Militant was quoted in the memorial leaflet as the spokesperson for the Org. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

She was checked into the hospital under an alias "Mia Gregory" (instead of Mayte Garcia) - when there's no name to the baby, hospitals put "boy" or "girl" plus the mother's last name. Hence "boy" - Gregory. I'm sure she was annoyed all those years seeing people thinking that was the name, thinking they were weird parents, like naming him Boy George or something. Ahmir is absolutely perfect! I wish it had worked out...
I was OK for about a week, but I'm getting teary-eyed at everything again. I need another break from the org...

Interesting that the photos in the programme don't seem to include any of his family (parents etc.) or Vanity.

Wendy seems the outspoken type to have expressed similar sentiments in Prince's presence too. I have always admired her honesty.
It goes to show you that no matter how much time passes between people, their influence can linger. To me there is great hope in knowing Prince inspired so many people, & turned them onto the love of music. If all the artists that Prince knew keep up their craft, it will be like little pieces of him are still with us. I bet the future holds some reunion concerts, but I wonder if reunion albums will be in store?
I know Prince made an effort to ''reconcile'' with many people from the past recently, I hope it gave everyone involved peace. If not, I hope this memorial served everyone in the Prince ''makeshift family'' well.
The only issue I have is the ''order of service'' booklet comes across as a little contrived, like a concert tour book... God forbid it winds up in the wrong hands & people try to make money off of it... "All the world is faith, trust and pixie dust...''
Love gets in my eyes, yet I can see clearer than I've ever seen

All of these people talking like they knew all about his business are killing me...you did not, it's as obvious as the Sun to everybody looking at you. You really need to stop and get a grip on reality.

Oh there is a photo of Sheila E - you know the one where they're performing (both in white) and Prince is singing over her shoulder and has his arm around her - it's in the program. There are a number of pictures of both of the ex-wives, maybe they just didn't want to acknowledge other "important women" in his life by including pictures - ha!

When a baby is born, regardless if you are married or not, the last name is the mothers maiden name and the first name is the sex. When my son was born, although we named him Noah, he was legally identified as Boy Lozano until a legal birth certificate was issued and filed with his legal name. The Gregory name was probably a way to protect the childs identity, as all media knew Mayte's last na,e was Garcia.
