As in Phase One is greater than Phase 2. Or not? That's my vote. What is yours? If you say "both" you're automatically a douche.

Hard to say. They are completely different

Phase 1, IMO, is Prince in sync with the times, an album made for the dancefloor. Phase 2 is more laid back, live band feel.

Phase 1 for me.. I love this album.

Phase 2 isn't good, I am working on it, trying to listen... so far without joy...

Mine was the extact opposite but now I'm in the same boat. Phase 1 just grew on me big time and Phase 2 just seems dull in comparison now.

as an album i have to go for PHASE TWO

having said that, Phase One does contain some extremely cool songs. like "hardrocklover" which is
probably the song i've listened to and enjoyed most over the past 10 years or so

but as an album i don't like Phase One, since it opens with a song that doesn't have Prince on vox,
it has 2 remixes i don't care for and although i love the track, i can't listen to "ain't about 2 stop" -
i just cringe too damn hard at the "if u're not a rita bot u're a bloodclot" or whatever it says.

the good tracks, are super good "shut this down", "xs face", "hardrocklover", "1000 X&O", "june"
i could listen to all day everyday. but the other tracks, not so much.

PHASE TWO is all a bit more subdued but i love all the tracks, apart from "stare" which i don't mind
but don't love either. but as an album it's way better than Phase One for me.

PHASE TWO is a great album, PHASE ONE makes for a supercool EP.

I've actually only listened to each of them once, and I really don't like Phase 1 and I really love Phase 2. I expect each to start moving more toward the middle with time...

Easily Phase Two for me. There are a few enjoyable songs on Phase One but as an album it doesn't work for me.

Still waiting to get Phase I.

But am liking Phase II a lot...just comes across a really happy chilled album great for the summer

Another douche here.

They are so different and intentionally so, that there's no way I can pick one over the other... I actually think they're both incredibly strong records, and taken together give a great account of the breadth and depth of Prince's tastes and eclecticness...

Weakest track of both albums is Screwdriver, for me, which should have been added to Plectrum Electrum, as that album was weak anyway....

Also, the best song on both is on Phase 2.... Groovy Potential is so full of joy and incredibly musicianship, a summation of the pure joy of music-making and music-listening...

Both records succeed in what they set out to do, but what each sets out to do is very different fomr each other .... one is 'this is where we're headed', the other is 'this is where we've come from'....

In Phase Two, Prince sounds like Prince.

I enjoy each album individually on it's own merit, so....both.

Phase 1, 'cuz Hardrocklover ... that song rocks my world, when I put it on repeat I get high
