I don't see why this is a bad thing ??

One great artist honoring another great artist ?

If they had chosen a lesser known artist many of you would be up in arms that they'd chosen a B-list or a C-lister.

She'll do him right, we know she will. whether we like her or not.

Props to Madonna to be willing to show Prince the respect he deserves.

If anybody knew about the music biz and keeping up a Persona it's Madonna. She visited him recently at PP didn't she? In a way in terms of sex, love and lust she was Prince's twin on the stage. I am sure there will be many tributes to come and maybe Stevie and others will do the Soul Tribute.

prince, michael jackson, madonna were all born n 1958,in 1984-85 they ruled the music world as i called them"the triple threat of 1984"madonna is the last one standing for that era so i have no problem of her paying tribute 2 prince..both havehad mutial respect 4 each other so i think her performance will be very respectful

They dont have the cache' that Madonna has.

She is not the only one 'left' though. There are some real talented musicians still standing and all of their instruments and mics are plugged in when they perform.

Seriously, I cannot think of anyone worse except for Beiber, a Directioner or a Timberlake. That would have been my admission to Shady Pines.

I don't think she's a great choice either, but it is what it is. If she will be talking about him as well that makes me feel better. She will say wonderful things about him I'm sure. Like others have said let's hope performance wise is better than Gaga's tribute to Bowie which had me anxiously squirming in my seat waiting for it to get better the entire time.

I can't believe anyone would take that setlist seriously! lol lol

As for Madonna - she absolutely should be involved, in my opinion. One of the few genuine superstars left now who has lived through that era and understands the impact Prince truly made.

I believe guys like Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber (I know some of you have just vomited your very soul up at the thought of them) would blow people away with the right Prince songs in a live performance, but it would be about them, certainly for the latter 2 - JT is maybe possible of being more respectful. There are a few younger artists who could put on a good show for a few songs and probably sell some records off the back of it.

Madonna, however - she'll look to get that mix of filth, funk and fun into it, the very stuff that made most of us so utterly captivated by Prince. Of course she's not as talented, even she knows that, but she'll get that attitude that was so revolutionary in the 80s and so many have paled in comparison trying to copy, because she was capable of doing that as well back then.

So yeah, she may not put on the same sort of show as a younger artist could, or even a Stevie Wonder or others, but she'll get it.

So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

They should have picked the musicians that worked with him throughout the years. They knew him better than Madonna.

Seems like Madonna is not the best choice to represent all that he was. I get he invited her to perform at Paisley, but it doesn't seem like for the past 15 years they were best friends that communicated in a weekly or Monty basis. Billboard is doing this for the ratings. Not a good choice at all.

If anything it should have been Sheila E, Wendy, Lisa, Dez, Morris Day, Jimmy Jam and some recent band members, and some personal friends and family. I won't waste my time watching Madonna doing this for her own publicity purposes.

Absolutely!!! Stevie, Patty, Mavis, Morris Day, and then some.

They pulled the same crap with James Brown and MJ. Wtf. Madonna is just for the ratings. Hopefully Stevie and others can collaborate with a different tribute, and some of Prince's former band members and other known musicians he collaborated with, and do a real tribute. Marina was just another temporary girlfriend fling.

Thank goodness BET did a tribute for Prince when he was alive. Where was Billboard then?

I just feel Billboard is not doing a tribute from a genuine place. Stevie and former band members that worked with him from the beginning to the end, and that would have been the respectful thing to do, to have them do a tribute. They were the ones that stood up hours rehearsing and performing with him, not Billboard.

Get used to the fact that most of the upcoming tributes will be uninformed, cringeworthy, cheesy and pure ratings grabs. And they're going to wear out Purple Rain, as if it were his only creative piece of work.

This is wear he needs a musician insider advocate and supportive record company.

I'm sure that these people will do their own tribute,at another event.Let's be honest....for the Billboard Awards, they need a *major* superstar and Madonna is the ultimate iconic superstar. She's one of the last few left.

I loved the BET awards tribute with Janelle Monae etc... (2010?), I'd much prefer that to Madonna. I don't dislike Madonna and I don't doubt she'll do a great performance but I doubt it's what Prince would have wanted. I'd have preferred some of Prince's icons to do it, such as Stevie Wonder, or people he admired such as Lana del rey or Laura Mvula. From a selfish point of view, I'd have loved to see Kate Bush do it, but hey I'll be watching nonetheless

YESS YESS YESSSSSSS!!! Sheila E is a monster of a musician. In fact everyone you mentioned. Billboard is doing this for ratings. Although Madonna is very proud of that no-singing voice she has so she will probably try to sing live. For that reason alone, I'm out.

You're forgetting they dated years ago. Wrote many songs together, and probably met dozens of times over the years at events, including at Paisley Park very recently.

.

I think she'll do well with the right songs. I'd like to hear her sing Love Song.

And perhaps backed by 3rdeyegirl for songs like Lets Go Crazy.

I think she could pull that off well.

Someone with the same level of musical talent, who knew him and could do him justice. Someone who would probably reach out to his band mates to help him.

I am sorry, I just cannot get behind Madonna doing his songs when there are those who were with him around who would do them better and with feeling.

Prince 'dated' and I use the word loosely, alot of people. That doesn't mean they're qualified to do a tribute to him.

Lol, she slept with a host of men, and collaborated with others. This will just be another publicity stunt for her. She wasn't with him from the beginning of his career, in his band sweating her ass off for hours of grueling rehearsal, like the band members that knew and saw different sides of him. She was not the only female artist he wrote songs for. That's like asking Sheena Easton to do the tribute for him. Another commercialized, Ingenuine tribute. Where was Billboard and the Grammys when Prince was alive?

So glad I went to the Carnegie shall tribute and at least saw some of his former band mates dibs tribute, even if Prince didn't attend, but st least they didn't wait until he passed to do it. I bet some other former band members were asked to participate, but chose not to at the time, but now they are shedding tears?
