Cool. I had a roommate in the late '80s who loved Appetite for Destruction and I, of course, loved all things Prince. We would take turns blasting songs by GNR and the Purple Yoda. This article brings them both together. Who would have thought that Duff was so heavily influenced by Prince? Maybe he's on the org as we speak!

duff is a guy who worships prince, through all the past few years when Prince would get great reviews or his own fans would tear apart everything he did, Duff was one guy who did nothing but praise Prince anytime he mentioned him and knew how special Prince really was.

I remember in early interviews Duff always said Prince was an influence.

I was 15 in 1987, and I was working at my first job at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I ended up dating a girl there, and played SOTT for her while we were driving around (she drove). She looked in pain, and cringed at the music (obviously not a Prince fan).

She told me that she'd play some "REAL" music for me . . . which was Appetite For Destruction.

Good thing for me, is that I'm more open-minded to music and loved both bands -- but GNR was not a favorite of mine at any time like it was for her.

I'm a seattleite so I regularly look through the weekly, his statements on Prince are fairly regular. And he writes on interesting topics as a musician. I do wish, as a musician, more of the oversaturated music scene around here was like him. I really don't try to talk to musicians around here, very cliquish and cooler than thou. Duff is part of an elite club and he's humble as hell.

me and my fellow prince fan best friend argued about GNR, I called them one of the greatest rock bands ever, he said they were in a league with poison and the rest of the hair bands.

I've ALWAYS loved GnR's "November Rain" because I get a very strong Prince vibe from it. And the people I've said that to, told me flat out it was because I..."have Prince on the brain"... like that was a bad thing and was supposed to hurt my feelings or something.

Anyhoo...now that it's making crystal clear sense to me. One more time for the one time.

Duff is cool, but I have to admit I didn't like his version of "Bambi". Slash said some really nasty and homophobic stuff about P in the past, but I think he changed his ways later on.
