Bob George ... The Black Album

Been getting into The Black Album lately, found it sealed at cd/game exchange place a few years back. I remember when I saw it on the shelf they wanted an absurd high price for it, found out why soon after, then it came down a few weeks after that, and I had a collection of music to trade to offset the price. The track Bob George is my favorite off of it, it's so different and that guitar in the background just does it. "Why can't we just dance?", only Prince would come up with that.

Listened to it today, I love this track too. That line " go and put on that wig I bought you..the reddish brown one,' why that line still makes me laugh I don't know but the first time I heard it, I just lol. Anyhow, "little?..it may be little but it's LOUD.'
Baby, you're a star.

"For someone who can't stand them tv dinners, you sure eat enough of them motherfuckers." The beat is so simple and so creative. Was listening on my morning walk - just swapping out claps on the two and four for snare adds a huge dynamic change.

Love the performance of it on the lovesexy vhs. With the mad sunglasses and jacket. One of my favourite songs. I know it shouldn't be - but it's in my top ten if not five. Think the black album was maybe the third or second album I heard courtesy of sneaking in my mate's uncle's room and borrowing it. Treated it with kid gloves and was shit scared to scratch it or fingerprint the sleeve.

This was the track where Prince showed the most creative muscle in my opinion. Look at what any other pop star was putting out back in 1988.

I became truly obsessed after hearing this track and this album.

"Idonttalkaboutyou ... Idonttalkaboutyou!"

I remember one of the Peach & Black guys saying he loved the line "you think I don't?" and used it himself for years in all kinds of situations.

"Yeah, right! Since when'd you have a job?"

Hmmmmmmmmm. I asked this question not so long ago. I asked who the gangster was in the Prince universe. And someone suggested "Spooky Electric". This surely isn't Camille, right?

Spooky Electric was Prince's reference to the Devil.

Camille was his own (bad) alter ego that 'created' the Camille and Black Album.

I saw both Boy George and Carmen Electra do the Hollywood Medium on E Channel the week before he died...wierd!..... I forget the medium's name. Young man. Very sweet. I know you all think that stuff is crazy. I don't blame u. But it would be cool to have him at paisley park and see if he channels prince and any messages to his fans or estate/vault. ect I'm losing it aren't I ?....

It's hard to let go. It was so fast. I had my fears and warnings, but I still didn't expect this.

He was so HEALTHY and VIBRANT!

I know the background. But in that case, the gangster can't be Camille. She's pitched up. The gangster has a low base monotone voice. Far from her personality.

Camille was a male character and was responsible for all many voices. There is a misconception that Camille is the sped up voice, because of the tracks on the Camille album. People like to compartmentalise things.

Camille was all the vocal ranges, high (Feel U up, Housquake), mid (Superfunkicalifragisexy, Le Grind) and low (Scarlet Pussy, Bob George).

That said, the Camille character seemed to change many times, including male/female.

i was blasting it in the car the other day when it came on the Sirius Groove...

oh my god.. there are a few parts that are just so killer...

the way he says "YEAH RIGHT" after... new coat, huh...thats nice... did you buy it,, YEAH RIGHT?

its almost melodic...

THEN

COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP in a 'white guys accent".. and the way he says.. ILL KICK YOUR ASS... i swear, he sounds like he is a big green swamp monster or something..

and my favorite part is:

Is Mr. George Home?

Hello, Mr. George?

Its like... he is being SO PROPER AND POLITE..i just cant help crack up!

and then of course.. THIS IS YOUR CONSCIENCE MOTHERFUCKER!

oh god what a song!

In the video from the Lovesexy tour, Prince even says "This is Camille" when he's playing the character he plays in "Bob George" (must have been channelling George Clinton / Sir Nose for this performance).

"Bob George" is nowhere a Camille track.

It was recorded with 2NU4WC and "Le Grind" specifically for Sheila E's birthday (P decided later to include it in TBA), and this apart it doesn't have any resemblances with the Camille concept.

The only fact that it features a P altered voice doesn't qualify automatically it as a Camille track.
