Does Prince have a Purple Rain 2 or Sign O the Times 2 in the Vault? As each day goes by, I go in different directions in trying to think of what it is going to be as a Prince fan going forward. There are of course still MJ fans and Whitney fans and 2Pac fans but I think whatver they left behind as recorded material was somewhat limited. Prince has this unknown storehouse of material and though we have heard bits and pieces of it over the years we really truly don't know what to expect. So my thought today is that if, amongst the other treasures, Prince has this unreleased, unbelievably awesome theme album or album filled with undeniably catchy pop songs what happens? Is it possible that Prince has gems that rival or surpass PR or SOTT? How would it be marketed, would radio play new singles? And would it all feel completely hollow since the man is no longer with us and since there would be no corresponding tour? This is all such unknown territory; the problem with being a Prince fan, and the difference with being an MJ or Bowie or Whitney fan is that Prince was so prolific and all of us were spoiled with constant new material. Does he have something in the Vault that rivals his masterworks and if so what will that be like for us? [Edited 5/12/16 6:38am] All good things they say never last...

Dunno, do you consider any of the circulating outtakes to be of the same quality as PR or SOTT? I'm not sure how many of the currently circulating outtakes have that mass appeal, one or two maybe, but there's definitely lots of outtakes up to the level of his actual albums overall. I doubt it. I think the bulk of it is already out in some form or another. There will be enough material for some great box sets in awesome quality but I'm not expecting magical entire lost albums on the level of SOTT or PR. Would love to be wrong.

I have a friend with first hand knowledge of the vault. We will be pleasantly surprised over the quality of the material that should come out over the upcoming 20 years.

I think we are going to get a collection of songs in box sets once or twice a year and that will of course be awesome, especially if the quality if good and we haven't heard these songs 1000 times in bootlegs. I am probably being selfish is hoping that Prince, being Prince, recorded a few albums each year, one for release and others just because. Albums with themes and cohesion, not just collections of songs. If he never slept and was recording all the time, this is possible. Maybe it's kind of like thinking they will find a lost Da Vinci painting somewhere. And even then, if such a thing exists, will it hurt because it would have been nice to appreciate it when the man was alive? All good things they say never last...
