STEVEN TYLER: 'I Think PRINCE Died So I Could Live' AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler says that he is worried that he could one day end up dying like Prince. It was recently reported that the powerful painkiller Percocet was present in the legendary music icon's body when he was found dead late last month. But it is not yet clear if the substance played a role in his death. The AEROSMITH lead singer, who has admitted to a decades-long struggle with substance abuse as well as a more recent relapse into prescription drug addiction, expressed his sadness over the loss of prince, whom he called "a saint" and "a musician who spoke my language." Tyler told People magazine: "We're going to miss him and his music, but I think it's deeper than that." Although he managed to stay sober for 12 years after a successful recovery in 1988, Tyler fell off the wagon into painkiller addiction following foot surgery, which led to him declaring doctors the new drug dealers. "You know, I am very aware of taking too much of something," he told People. It got me in rehab many, many times. As a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, I get that. In the '80s, I fell to my knees with my addictions." The rocker continued: "Doctors are the new pushers. All of America isn't strung out on street drugs, they're strung out on prescribed drugs. "I'm hoping whoever brought him [Prince] to the hospital that night will have something to say... I hope it's not drugs. But if it is, this didn't have to happen... I was fortunate enough to have someone who said, 'You're going to Betty Ford [rehab clinic], again.'" In a new interview with DuJour magazine, Tyler said: "I think Prince died so I could live. I think we both have the same disease. Today I'm sober and alive. Will I be dead tomorrow? I don't know."

I was hoping MJs death would be a wake up call to a few people. Especially Prince. I'm glad Steven recognizes this. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

It's good to see people are starting to take the problem seriously at least. ¡The Future Is Ours, If You Can Count! https://www.youtube.com/w...A_zTY0qWWk

I'm sure that unflattering statement was taken out of context so I'm not going to feel anyway about it

The context is literally in the article and is totally justified. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Yeah, you see this more and more. People read the subject line only and fire off a reply without reading the actual post / article. The twitter effect. "..free to change your mind"

Before we all confirm that Prince was an addict and died of an overdose can we at least await the ME report that states that.
He could have had a heart attack, bad drug interaction, etc., a million and one things that are not addiction related.
Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Personally I don’t see how Prince becoming dependent on painkillers after a hip surgery (if that's true) can be equated to some of these other celebrity deaths due to drug use. Steven Tyler has admitted to taking and snoring everything but the kitchen sink. Prince wasn’t found dead in a crack house or with illegal drugs on his person. If he, like millions of others, had to rely on prescription pain killers to make it through the day or so he could continue to give his fans his best effort on stage, his image should NOT be tarnished. I’m sorry he’s gone but he doesn’t deserve to go done in history with the Whitney Houstons, Amy Winehouses and Cory Monteiths of the world.

In 2006 my mother died from side effects of being perscribed morphine for the pain caused by narlpathy. She was not addicted but the drug cause colon blockage as a side affect. To hell with these dug companies who only care about finacial gain and the doctors who freely give this crap out when there are safer options. Most of these drugs have like 10 different side effects which can be more harmfull than what they are to treat. the love we make

I wish no one had to die, but if I was forced to choose between the two for their contributions to humanity through music, I wish Steven Tyler had died so Prince could have lived - not that someone like Steven Tyler dying would've been likely to have had much of an impact on Prince. I guess something had an impact, however, since he was to meet with someone to talk about getting out of the addiction business.

I know were you're comming from....but dang. I just wish people would wake up about perscribed drugs in general, and start being smart. A couple of years ago I had a double hernia surgary and was perscribed Norco for the pain. I refused to take it and took a Motrin when I needed somthing for pain. Forget that addictive junk.

But nobody is putting him in the same category as these people. There's also no need to be so judgmental on people who fell to the addiction of illegal drugs, whether they did it to get high or escape reality. They did more with their lives than just to be put in the a category like the "Whitney Houstons" wtf. Prince was a control freak so of course he wasn't going to take anything that got him out of that need for control. He was the consummate performer, a genius, nothing will take away from that. You correctly point out that we don't know if he died of an overdose. But we know now that he was addicted. That has been confirmed.
