Prince liked to make music. Business seems like something he avoided as much as he could. To the extent he involved himself in business it was only because he felt he had no better choice. I forgot the guys names that ran the Musicology tour but they said the same thing. So you can see how a will might be something he never got around to.

You may be right, but i still find it very hard to believe. He had many assets, a business, employees, family dependant on him, and so on. Surely someone advised him to do a will!

Agree with you 100%, but if he doesn't have a will, then it's going to count as another knock against his unconventional business practices (handshake deals, no contracts, no manager, no lawyers, etc). Generaly speaking, well, if you just consider MJ, Prince should have needed to complete a will at some point in his recording career just to close certain deals. I'm kinda thinking sideways about Pepe Willie lately as he was said to have tutored Prince in the business of music early on in his career. If there is no will the Estate taxes, are pretty much unthinkably high which might lead to an auction of the various rights and properties controlled by Prince's estate.

Here's the thing, if Prince DID have a will he sure as hell wouldn't have just left the only copy hanging around somewhere for anyone to find. He would have been smart enough to have given a copy to the executor. Since nobody has stepped up to say he named them executor or gave them a copy of a will, it's highly likely there's no will. There may have been one when he was married, but since his last divorce I don't think having an updated will was a priority for him.

He seemed to have a thing about contracts since he became JW.

.

Didn't he say he anulled his marriage from Mayte because it was a marriage CONTRACT and he didn't belive in them anymore? I think he may have considered a will the same thing. I know i read something like that and that he and Manuela didn't have a ''traditional'' legal marriage situation, more of a religious coupling type thing...but i am not sure.

Anyone can please enlighten me on this smile

Well, he didn't become a JW until two years after he split with Mayte, and he married married Manuela the same year he became a JW. I don't think that had anything to do with their divorce.

I am thinking there was a will. Jehovahs Witnesses are encouraged to have their "house in order" should anything happen to them (so the family are looked after) and maybe even leave a percentage to the Organisation itself if one wishes to (although not a requirement). But of course it is not enforced, it is just something that is encouraged. I keep wondering if a will is going to surface and maybe if the Congregation or Larry Graham may have it?

But of course, the other side is maybe there just is not one - maybe Prince thought he cant take it with him and it wont be of any use to him in the future so dont worry about it?

I feel so sorry for the staff at Paisley Park though- they will soon have no jobs and their lives are going to take a big change - for us it is a loss of our music guru, but for them it is a loss of their financial security & their lives will be affected in more ways than ours..........

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

I've been watching some interviews and he mentions a lot about not looking back nor forward. I think it may have been something to do with his wanting to be in the moment he was in and not trying to control the future. Possibly he didn't care what happened to his money or estate when he died. His spirituality may have a lot to do with not making a will.

First post, hi everyone! biggrin

Why didn't Prince leave a will???

He was a loyal customer to Bremer and wanted them to deal with his estate.
