New topic PrintablePurpleHigh said: Hmmm...I never get a good feeling when laws are "rushed." They never seem to work out very well. The law is common, especially in places like California with lots of celebrities. Minnesota is one of the few places that didn't have it, and there was a rush of people using his likeness to sell goods with Prince's likeness as soon as he passed. It was a law that was lacking there.

Thats so they can cash in on merchandise their selves, the only reason unofficial stuff is knocking around cos no one can get hold of official products, i know someone who makes 'fan' shirts, not because he makes money, but because he enjoys supplying people who actually find it hard the find anything. I bet when the dust settles, all kinds of 'official' toot will be available like never before.

Are you really sure that he left no will?
Blue or Red pill?
Maybe, his will was to leave no will.

I think that was awesome! The Minnesota House of Representatives eulogizing and and paying tribute to their lost star. And not a negative word, just career highlights, with love and respect.

Because Prince didn't leave a will and his name and likeness are up for grabs until the courts decide who the legal heirs are. This law would stop the unauthorized use now until the estate is settled. That's how it sounds to me, anyway.

Ingela said: Wow. Nice. I have to give props to Minnesota for being so protective and loving in everything Prince related after his passing. Class act. Major props to Minnesota and Minniapolis [Edited 5/9/16 18:34pm] The people here respect and admire him for staying when he could have left MN far behind a long time ago. So there is genuine devotion here for the man. And the majority of folks are very proud of his accomplishments whether they are fans of his music or not. He was good to us and we tried to be good to him I believe. I was quite pleased to hear about this too. Altho I have enjoyed being exposed to more of his stuff on YouTube since his passing this is the right thing to do. I viewed much of it but did not download or save anything. I'm trusting his family or whoever ends up with the rights to be more reasonable and share at least a little more of him with his fans going forward so things don't get so crazy with the bootlegs and lawsuits etc. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

I don't think the law is about tabloids, the press has always been able to do that and they aren't going to pass a law that blocks freedom of the press (or it'll get overturned). The law about companies selling t-shirts and stuff with his name or photo on it. That was illegal when he was alive, but stopped being protected when he died. I own a t-shirt company and could have made a significnat amout of money selling Prince stuff this past few weeks, but I'm not about to try to profit over his death.

This also protects his likeness and voice for at least 50 years. In other words, nobody will be making a holographic Prince and parading it around on tour (at least not without the family's consent).

I agree 100% - Way to go MN. What a wonderful way to say Thank You to Prince AND show respect for his feelings on this matter. I wish it had only come along sooner becasue the wolves are out in packs on ebay trying to make a buck on just about anything by putting his name, image or symbol on it.

UncleGrandpa said: It's good that this is happening now because it would put to a halt all of the bootleg items being sold on Facebook with his face and name, we now damn well he would not have endorsed phone cases and jewelry with the symbol on it. Got that right omg he would hate it

AIDS is nothing to make fun of it if he had it they could show some compassion. If he did not have they scaring the hell out anyone that was involved with him. Horrible I hope his family sue the pants off the Enqiurer. I was so disgusted when I saw the front page of the Enquirer in 2 or 3 stores, and newstands defaming Prince in such a horrible, way, upon his death with unconfirmed rumors of his health, and reasons behind the cause of his death. This is just getting horrible, I am glad to see we all here think it's disgusting it will take some time to block these money blood suckers. Sorry Prince was so fiercely private I hope someone was close to him help guide him. Breaks my heart

Hello all! In keeping with what Prince would want and approve of. Where is the best place to go and purchase his music. And did he ever endorce any of the books that are out about him?

I'm glad to hear this is being done. This is exactly what Prince would of wanted. I'm crossing my fingers that somewhere in Paisley Park the will is there. He liked to make us wait so possibly this could be a potentially bright spot in this dark and unfortunate situation. I miss him so much folks [Edited 5/11/16 7:59am]

. Don't know about the books but TIDAL is what Prince believed in because its owned by Artists not Corporates. Most of his albums are there under Prince, or Prince and the NPG or Revolution, but not all. Njoy. It's an extremely poorly written law, likely to unconstitutional extremes, and it's quite distressing that fans don't care about that. I suppose that's probably why it's so poorly written.
