Does anyone else feel a bit self centered and greedy? Finally listened to him properly after his death.
The one thing that really strikes me is how upset I am that I'll never hear 'new material' (other than maybe Vault stuff of course) and how I feel deprived of what could have been many more years of music.
Then it struck me how utterly self centered and greedy that is- I'm sad for my own loss. I suppose that's the same for most of us. Makes me feel a bit weird about being sad.

I don't think it's being greedy. You (like all of us) are grieving his loss..we all wanted new music from him..we all wanted him to be around. It hit me the other night that I will never see his new hairstyle, new musical direction, new band, etc...but I have a feeling we're probably going to get a lot of new music once everything is settled. Nothing wrong in feeling the way you do.

"do i have a friend tonight?" --prince at his last concert in atlanta "If u love somebody, your life won't be in vain
And there's always a rainbow, at the end of every rain."--peace and love, dear prince.....

Perhaps the new stuff he was working on will see the light of day, Pangea and other tracks that were to redefine the minneapolis sound, according to what Prince was quoted as saying in a recent article. Baltimore was the first example of this, where he plays guitar throughout, then has orchestration created directly from that guitar, in a lot of places, actually replacing the guitar solo completely. If you have the original version of Baltimore, and compare it to the released, you will see what I mean clear as day. I would like to think that this very new stuff will see the light of day at some point.

No more Prince antics. No more shade... Side eyes. Bed room eyes... I feel like I'm in the middle of THE worst break up ever. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

It's okay to be angry - find an outlet for it though and talk about how you feel. The anger should soon ebb away...

. Nothing at all wrong with how you feel. Unless you were having lunch with Prince once a week, or going to basketball games with him a few times a year, spending holidays with him...the man was just an entertainer. Those that were family and friends will miss him as a friend. The rest of us will miss our only contact that we had from him -- his music.

Nothing wrong with this at all. In fact, I wonder what else you feel you're 'supposed' to be sad about, other than your own loss? Someone mentions not knowing him personally, which is true and worth noting, but even if you had known him and he died, it'd still be your own sense of loss (of a friend or whatever) that you'd primarily be sad about. And I felt bad for being angry at Prince for not taking care of himself. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

I think all feelings are ok. I know we have a lot to be grateful/thankful for, but it's still crap that he died and I'm not going to feel guilty about feeling sad/angry/grumpy/depressed/hackedoff/whatever for a while. Go with the flow and don't worry about it.
