Petition: Senator Al Franken :: Declare Prince's Music & Videos National Treasure Protected by Smithsonian Museum of Art

There is a Change.org petition regarding the preservation of Prince's legacy. I thought the group would find it interesting. I'm not sure such a thing could actually happen, but for the sake of argument, would such an action dis-inherit Prince's legal heirs? Would it basically make Prince's intellectual property state-owned and controlled? Any lawyers in the house?
