I wish Purple Rain became like Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I went to one of the many in memory screenings of Purple Rain last week, and I know people were there to honor Prince's memory, but I was struck by how into the movie people were. There were so many moments of crowd participation with the movie -- people singing, holding up lighters/cell phone flash lights during Purple Rain, singing along at certain spots, following along with the movie crowd's dancing, etc.

I fear this will be isolated to these few weeks, but I would love if they would bring back Purple Rain once a year and for it to get this sort of crowd. This movie just seems tailor made for audience participation.

Mmm - I could see this happening with everyone attedning playing their part in the audience, dressed in full costume.

Oh - I forgot - there's that scene with Apollonia.

I'm sure that scene with Apollonia can be done with a body suit; Rocky Horror is even more risque than Purple Rain.

Considering the crowd I saw it with so naturally fell into the role of playing certain parts, it feels like such a natural movie to morph into a crowd participation movie.

I've had this very same thought. The estate should do something to market it like that

I love this idea. They could have a bench to double as the motorcycle/bed, a pingpong ball on a stick inside a cone for the puppet, a mirror for the Jerome character to carry.... I hope this happens.

I think it would be a good idea if Purple Rain was turned into a Broadway musical

THIS! ive been thinkking about this very thing all wknd. It could be a good follow up project for Lin Manuel Miranda, or whoever was behind Motown.
