Official Live Releases I've seen lots of talk about what a shame it is that the only official live Prince music is the One Nite Alone Live box set. While I agree there should be many official live albums I feel I must point out that there was a lot of more official live material released: Sign ''O'' The Times movie (heavily overdubbed, but...) on VHS, DVD & Bluray Lovesexy Live - Lovesexy Tour, Dortmund on VHS & LD NYC Live - Jam Of The Year Tour, New York single on CASS The War - Paisley Park single on CASS Rave Un2 The Year 2000 - Paisley Park on DVD One Nite Alone Live - Tour/Aftershow compilation on CD Days Of Wild - ONA Tour, Montreal single on CD Live At The Aladdin In Las Vegas = ONA, Las Vegas on DVD Indigo Nights - Aftershow, London on CD with book plus lots of digital only tracks from the NPGMC and other online outlets plus lots of shows & clips officially broadcast on TV & Radio plus the Controversy show from New Jersey that has an official digital release plus a bunch I'm forgetting...

Does anyone remember the Days of Wild single that he gave out at Paisley Park? I remember downloading it off of Napster (I know, shame on me). It was free of the overdubs that showed up on the 3 track single he released later. I was at that show in Montreal and it was so cool to have a piece of it.

I got two of those at the 2002 celebration.

That´s a good list but you might as well include The Undertaker VHS release there if you count the SOTT concert movie. The Undertaker was more of a live video than SOTT. Shot in one take, live playing, recorded around 3 or 4 a.m spontaneously. Minimal overdubs. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

See, I knew I forgot some, thanks KoolEaze.
Minimal overdubs? I thought The Undertaker had zero overdubs. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

The '86 Birthday Show was shown on US TV
And Tokyo and Spain '90
A lot of Rock in Rio was shown on TV too.
.
How much would we like some proper DVD / Upressed Blu Ray releases though !?????

I meant the version of Dolphin and some of the vomitting sounds (Vanessa Marcil? ) . " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I think there is more than one version of The Undertaker out there. My legit VHS tape says that Dolphin was partly overdubbed. They should have released that one on DVD later on. Or they should re-release it. One of my favorite video releases. And the Beautiful Experience had some great live footage as well. That was a very misunderstood and underrated little film. Very futuristic and ahead of its time, and the storyline was not that bad. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

You forgot the NYC 1998 show that's been released by Wolfgangsvault a few years back (2 other shows are also available there but streaming only, including the Controversy show u mentioned), Beautiful Strange and C-Note. I know it's highly debated but I consider The War an album (IIRC, it was originally presented as such on NPGOnlineLtd and NPGMC's respective discographies before being later marketed as a single) A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Apparently the original video version without overdubs (similar to canceled CD) received a limited VHS release in late 1993, thru online catalogues and maybe also NPG Stores. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Apparently the whole Rock In Rio show was, in fact, aired at the time. Besides the TV broadcast, there was also a radio broadcast of yet another Nude Tour show in Spain. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Back to the OP, yes a shitload of live material has been made available in one form or another, it became pretty obvious to me when I worked on the discog website. However most people automatically dismiss video albums, the NYC 98 show was only released digitally without fuss, The War and C-Note were limited releases credited to The New Power Generation, so in the end ONA Live and ONA Aftershow are the only 2 shows who are considered by most as being truly acknowledgeable. But yeah if u include everything (minus The Undertaker which was in all aspects a studio recordings and counting Lovesexy Live as 2 since it was originally released as 2 separate video albums), we have 14 live albums for 38 years of career, which isn't that bad. The Beautiful Experience was also released thru NPGMC in 2001 but it was a poor quality recording from TV on VHS A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

There's the concert that accompanies the interview with Scared Spice if that's not been mentioned. Think the programme was called Beautiful Strange and starts with him in the studio. Doug E Fresh guests at the show. Maybe New Power Soul era. Comin str8 outta Preston...

Sheila E.: Live Romance 1600" recorded live on March 8, 1986 at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco. With Prince Love Bizarre. This what i keep watching during these bad times.

Wasn't the long 12" version of I Would Die 4 U, recorded live, with minimal studio tweaks? I know it's not credited anywhere on the sleeve as being a live recording, but I always thought it was. It sounds more "live" than The Truth album, or One Nite Alone. In fact, half of the Purple Rain album is live recordings - but edited and overdubbed later. Same with It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night on Sign O' The Times. America always sounded kind of recorded all in one live take too. I may be way-off on that though.

Does anybody remember during the LOVE 4 ONE ANOTHER and JAM OF THE YEAR tours Prince had flyers handed out asking if you would live a copy of the performance? So hypothetically.. most of the tour was probably recorded?

djThunderfunk said: I think it's live in the studio, like The Undertaker. I just checked PrinceVault.com. Yeah, the 12" I Would Die 4 U was a live recording of a tour rehearsal. The recording of America is vague, although it does say that it would have been longer, if they hadn't ran out of tape. I always assumed it was recorded live, with a few overdubs later. Who knows?

Yep. Got it on CD. It ends with the Mel B interview which is pretty grating and hilarious at the same time.
There was a decent French special this last week or so 'Speciale Prince' which collected his performances on French TV. He turned it out for France.
