Prince's weird dancing

Watching all the great vids floating around I'm so struck by what a strange and original dancer he was. He made up the funky wierdest moves.

Especially Parade era...where the hell did he come up with that snake arms thing? Has to be from growing up in MN.

Same here, loved his moves and the way he danced and how he even did some mime now and then ... I would never even describe it as "weird dancing" ... ugh, it annoys me that people even say that about him (especially when they say Prince was weird! shoot3 remember that Oprah question?) but maybe I'm just a bit defensive here. Anyway to me he was just highly original, ffs he was Prince!

He was at his best when he improvised. His jazzy moves on the Parade tour are my favourite.

You know what though,I'm of the sound mind that weird is good. He's not wacko. A-hem. His Royal "weirdness" was a huge turn on for me and totally why I love him. He did awesome stuff.

He was just so amazing... I'm crying again! All around. I love him so.

His dancing nearly always suited the music perfectly. You can't say that about either Michael Jackson or James Brown.

MJ had the Moonwalk, JB had two signature moves: the electric slide and the James Brown. I know nothing about dancing, but the Org should find Prince's most signature move and label it the Royal Badness or the Purplelectricity or just "the Prince." Thoughts? I nominate dry-humping the stage.

I don't know really, maybe the Sign of the Times concert moves. They're weird and abstract but still fit the music. Stevie Wonder's favourite Prince song was Darling Nikki. I wonder if he was aware of the dry-humping dance moves to it though eek

SW's favourite was "Darling Nikki"? I love it. The moves in "Housequake" are sick.

As a dancer, Prince's moves don't appear strange or unusual to me at all. In fact a lot of the modern jazz I was taught incorporates some of African dance movements that aren't too dissimilar to Prince's moves. I suppose my teacher also taught African dance, but you can also see that in Cat Glover's choreography and movements in the Sign O' The Times movie.

Nobody has more moves than Prince, period, his gestures, his movements, always on the beat and topical to the lyric being sung. Nobody moved cooler than Prince imo, his body literally expressed the music. It's funny, I see his band members over the years try to dance the moves that they were choreographed, they just looked awkward doing it, yet when Prince does it, somehow it just looks cool as hell and truly natural.
