I've always heard it was about Carmen Electra, and the fact that she slept with Tony M. (I mean, talk about a downgrade. LOL) She really fawned over her when they were together. Some would say obsessive.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It's a great song to blast when you're alone in the car and singing your heart out. A good song to remember certain exes with.

I also like 319 from TGE.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

It is definitely about Carmen Electra. The million point 8 or more refers to the amount of dough that Prince put toward Carmen's album(Fantastica Erotica) to make it happen and how he lost it when it flopped. Flopped harder than a fish out of water.

I am not too sure about this but i think "goodbye" from the crystal ball set is also about Carmen.

Damn! Million point 8??!!??.. Brings to mind that comment in the Rolling Stone interview with P's former music associate; "Stop doing A&R with your d#%k!"

Apparently the video for 'Go Go Dancer' was a million $. That was one of the reasons Rosie Gaines quit the NPG. She was hugely talented & had a phenomenal vocal range & despite promises the material she recorded with P never saw the light of day. This money was from P personally as Warner refused to finance the Carmen Elektra project & with good reason. I rememember seeing her support on the D&P tour. Awful, awful, awful. No talent whatsoever. She was soon dropped!

P's record company(i forget the name of it) never had a chance cause whenever his cock got hard, he would find some random ass girl and fuck her and think that she was the next aretha franklin. These girls were very pretty and very young and very sweet and very naive but usually had no talent. Couldnt sing or dance for shit and their first album was usually their only album and it would flop hard. Any subsequent tracks or albums usually ended up in the vault just collecting dust. P really should have put more money into artist development at first instead of just trying to churn out an album. I am sure that Carmen Electra would have won a grammy if the vocal training had been extensive and she waited forever to go on tour....maybe sometime around 1999 when her star was rising with baywatch. I adore P as a musician but he had a bad eye for proteges at one point and that cost him dearly.

The story of "I Hate U" is rather simple. Carmen found out about Mayte and Nona and confronted Prince about it. Prince was sleeping with all 3 but they didnt know about each other. Prince obviously denied what he was doing to Carmen. Carmen was not the village idiot that she has always seemed to be. Carmen decided to enact a revenge of sorts on Prince by fucking Tony M. Carmen also had a relationship with B Real of Cypress Hill for a while after the aforementioned and was even seen dancing with him at Glam Slam. I would be really surprised if Carmen has made a statement regarding P's passing cause there was a lot of bad blood there.

Carmen Electra Reacts to Her Mentor Prince’s Death

Carmen Electra Reacts to Her Mentor Prince’s Death
Carmen Electra is opening up about the death of Prince, someone she looked up to as a mentor.

“I was so shocked and heartbroken to hear about the loss of my mentor, Prince,” she said in a statement to Us Weekly. “The world has lost a truly incredible spirit and musical genius. What a blessing it is to be one of the chosen ones who had the chance to work so closely with him. He gave me my name, he believed in me, and he has inspired an entire generation. I will always love him. … 'Sometimes it Snows in April.'"

The late entertainer helped launch the 44-year-old actress' career over two decades ago after she auditioned to be in a girl group he was starting.

Prince did not put Carmen, then named Tara Leigh Patrick, into the group, but he signed her to Paisley Park Records and reinvented her name.

"I received a call from Prince saying I think you should be your own artist and not back up anyone else. I'm going to write you a song and if you like it, you can record it," she said in an interview with OWN two years ago. "The name of the song was 'Carmen on Top.' My name is Tara, so I was confused. I loved the song. I loved it, but he said, 'You're not a Tara. You're not Tara. You're Carmen.’”

Around this time, wasn't Prince also involved with Troy Beyer? There were even rumors that she was pregnant with Prince's child. In any case, whatever happened with Carmen,it inspired Prince to write one of his best songs biggrin "I Hate U" is probably his finest single of the 90s.imo.

Troy Beyer supposed had a miscarriage in mid '94/early '95 but it was never confirmed. Prince was involved with Mayte, Troy, Nona, Carmen, and a host of others all at the same time. I love the man but monogamy was never his strong suit. All of those women have thankfully matured from such a wacky ass fucking experience and are all friends.

Prince gets a lot of flak for the sexpot proteges and for "doing A&R with his dick," but if the music industry stopped doing A&R with its collective dick, pop music would grind to a halt. Step-by-step music industry mentality: a: find attractive teenager who can sing and/or dance; b: groom them with singing and/or dance lessons, name changes, and guidance toward a marketable persona; c: assemble a gigantic team of songwriters, producers, videographers, album artists, hair and make-up artists, marketing professionals, etc. to package this person for infiltrating as many markets as possible. Take Katy Perry for example. Real name: Katie Hudson. Gospel singer, releases failed album. Changes name, goes secular, has a huge hit with a sex-themed song, "I Kissed a Girl," released when internet videos of girls kissing at college parties were all the rage. Look at Justin Bieber: his last album used 25 producers and more song writers than I could bother to count. Prince wasn't totally exempt from this process - his superstardom was somewhat dependent on it - but he was exempt from the songwriters and producers and eventually he took total control (notably, his market share declined in those years). He gave many of his proteges careers - Carmen Elektra is a success story, despite the flop album - but a major difference is he exercised creative control, writing the songs and producing the music. Now Prince is an excellent songwriter with a handful of #1s, but the proteges weren't his top priority, and other corporate-groomed artists benefit from more extensive resources than one superstar artist alone can provide, even if that person is Prince. Would you rather have Prince or David Fincher directing your videos? You couldn't ask for a better producer, but would you trust Prince to design or select your album art? Would you rather have Warner Bros market and distribute your album, or an online release through the NPG Music Club you know Prince will get tired of promoting when your fifteen minutes are up? Prince took the same approach to his proteges as Warner would take, but ultimately he didn't have the same corporate resources, and a lot of them ended up singing his lesser material. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm thinking his most successful protege projects happened when he was still aligned with WB.

And funky side note about Carmen. She was on MTV Cribs once. She had this nice duplex she lived in. White exterior, tall columns (romanesque) in the front. Then she says, "Let's go next door". She knocks on the neighbor's door, right next to her, and it's Apollonia & her husband! They'd been neighbors for ages. haha

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

When someone asked Prince once (in an interview) about monogamy, his answer was simple....

''I'm only monogamous with God!!!''

.

So true Prince, so true lol
