Prince's last shows

This is my first post here - sorry in advance for the long and belated post, but I wanted to share my experience at Prince's final shows in Atlanta. I had never seen Prince live before, but he was my favorite artist and I'd been dying to see him for years. I called a break in an important meeting at work and also got my wife to do the same so that we could work 2 computers at a time. Thankfully, the short notice and strict pickup rules kept the scalpers mostly at bay and I was able to get a great ticket to both the 7pm and 10pm shows.

I was beyond excited for the shows and they certainly lived up to the hype. I was imediately struck by the diversity and positve energy of the crowd. When Prince came on stage, the energy was indescribable. The first show felt like non-stop fun. He played so many hits, and played them with so much flourish and creativity. The concert flew by so that an hour and 20 minutes felt more like 20 minutes. Highlights for me were "Baby I'm a Star" and "Controversy", which sounded so different and surprising on the piano. "A Case of You" was also incredible - you could really feel the emotion in his singing.

The second show was far more intense and, somehow, even better than the first. Opening with "When Will We Be Paid" really set the tone for an intense, emotional show. Prince kept alternating fun hits with intense, emotional songs. My favorites were "Black Sweat," "Ballad of Dorothy Parker", "How Come you Don't Call Me Anymore" and of course the final encore. The last encore, mixing with Purple Rain/the Beautiful Ones/Diamonds & Pearls/Purple Rain" was such an emotional and satifying climax to show.

After the show I went home and was so worked up I literally couldn't sleep all night. I was shocked when I learned he had an emergency landing after the show. Prince looked and sounded fantastic - his voice was powerful and he had great energy. I don't think he was in pain or feeling bad during the shows - if he was he certainly didn't show it.

I'm incredibly thankful to have been able to go to those shows and see Prince before he passed. Those shows were special before he passed, but now they are even more treasured, and also haunting (it's hard to describe the emotions). Anyway, I've been obsessing over Prince for the last few weeks and reading your posts here, and thought I'd finally make a post of my own.

Thank you for sharing this, it's good to read he seemed really into it. The very last encore he ever did... sad in a way I'm glad he performed just before he passed away it must have made his heart glad doing what he loved. At least in those moments he was happy.
Baby, you're a star.

Meet me in another world, space and joy

Thank you for sharing. I saw him at the Sydney Opera House and it was one of the most wonderful nights of my life - but now I feel guilty as I worry it may have been too much for him. I am so happy to read that he was in fine form for his last shows and did not seem to have any issues. I am glad you have the happy memories.

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜
