Prince more a stranger to me than ever before

I've spent countless hours listenin to, watching, reading, daydreaming, talking, writing about, defending, critiquing this odd man for over 33 years, since before I even had hair on my chest, and yet after all this time he's now more of a stranger and mystery to me than ever before....

I sorta understand. I just did not think he had drug problems or was suffering in any way. He just seemed fit as a fiddle but increasingly less relevant. His death was 100% unexpected by me.

I could have written that post myself. I'm even down with the 33 years, pretty much.

I quite agree. The chronic pain he suffered I feel really sad about. And every day something else comes out like it's about another person. I honestly believed he was the cleanest living rockstar.

Today's revelation, in the log of 47 calls to 911 over 5 years: one call in 2011 in which an unidentified woman said she was concerned about Prince's cocaine use, but no police action was taken.

I thought it be far more likely Prince to die from a cheese grating accident than an ovedose.

What is striking to me is how lonely and alone he seems from the picture being painted

i wish we could find an old thread on hear, circa 2010 where some woman had written a letter to him, she was a friend and it got leaked. she said something to the effect that he was eating pills like m and m's and needed surgery. funny thing, one of the commenters actually said they didn't see him living past 57, of course we all jumped on him/her when they said that but they turned out right, just based off of intuition.

It's kind of the oppositte for me. Prince turned out to be mostly who I thought he was except for the addict part, though it all makes sense to me now. IIRC, Tamron Hall said Prince talked to her everyday for 3-4 hours in the morning and then again 3-4 hours at night... on the daily! No woman got conversation game that good that I need to talk 6-8 hours all day, every day. That right there tells me he was on something. I can't even watch her show more than 10-20 minutes before wanting to do something else.

that doesn't sound right at all, prince worked so much that i couldn't see him talking to a person that long. He used to tell mayte not to call. how you do anything else talking on the phone?

Well Prince's brother in law said Prince stayed up for days at a time without sleeping, and Tamron sounded like she was probably telling the truth, so again it sounds like he was taking a whole lot of something.

I find all of the stories hard to believe. We don't really know what's true and what's not so to just blindly believe all these random stories seems unfair since they are all one sided and unsubstantiated. I think it would be more respectful to ignore all the rumors instead of changing our opinion of Prince. All we know for sure is that he produced amazingly fantastic music and provided the best entertainment one could possibly ask for. If he was so lonely, in pain and on massive amounts of pain killers, would he really be capable of being the amazing musician that he's proved himself to be?

Every morning and every evening. And TMZ has reported cocaine and percocet.

Just curious, how accurate would you say TMZ has been on there reports of celebrities on a scale of 1 thru 10?

yeahthat Exactly, your opinion shouldn't change that quickly. Regardless if it is true or not, nobody is perfect and the good definitely outweighed the bad.

But especially somebody as super-private and secretive as Prince, it's really impossible to know what they are like off the stage or behind the camera. Doesn't matter to me though, my high opinion of him will never change no matter what.

For the record, I'm not talking about the drug use so much as its really hitting me that I never had a real sense of who he was. He had so many personas, so many different looks, hell he had different ways of talking.

Who was the real Prince?

well, I've listened to him for a week since he died, and I didn't listen to him before. Don't ask me why. I'm 58 and was around for it all, but I didn't like his lyrics especially in the initial work. But in this week, my conclusion has been that he was an abuse victim who ran from it all his life in every way, and I don't think he knew who he was either. I hope he found peace at the end. I feel real bad for what may have been done to him to make him completely unsure of himself. It's between him and God now and I surely hope he found peace like I do for everyone, especially those who have been so hurt.

Prince has big $$$$...

Steive nicks snorted cocaine unitl she had a hole through her sinues to her brain.

Addicts of Free-base don't have mush focus.

I assume all fo this would've happened earlier... HE could not sit with Larry G. In Bible study for too long without a "hit"...or a does..

Touring either... He'd be ultra-paranoid on Coke too...

VEry argunmentative when he had none, and spooked and quiet with it..

Don't see it...I beleive that some "Half-truths" may added/

Wrong. Percocet can also have the completely opposite affect too and keep you awake.

I last saw him two years ago in Manchester, and I was staggered by his energy - I thought how well he seemed and how little had changed in terms of his amazing stage performances.

I am shocked by his death - he seemed so youthful for a man his age, and given that he seemed to have led such a clean life, it seemed unlikely he wouldn't see old age. I had no idea he had any particular health issues, other than the hip problem, mention of which I'd seen here and in the media.

I don't think I ever felt I "knew" him - I think even to some of his close associates, he was probably at times unknowable. I got the feeling he was an intensely private person across the board. So much about him was mysterious, even his death, and that will probably leave many unanswered questions. U

I have the utmost sympathy for his suffering and I can well believe he was able to keep it hidden.

Even if he was addicted to recreational drugs (and I don't believe he was), it would make no difference to me. I loved him unconditionally and always will, I didn't have to know everything about him then and I don't now. His mystique was something very attractive to me. In a world where over sharing of everything has reached uber proportions, his desire for privacy was yet another thing that placed him apart from most celebrities.
