The ridiculous deluge of unauthorized material in the wake of Prince's death We have all seen the tidal waves of unauthorized Prince stuff that has resurfaced. It is as if people think that Prince was personally policing the web and now that he is dead, he cant get after them. To m, it is tantamount to running through his house and taking things that he wouldn't have wanted taken. Whatever your position on bootlegs, the wishes of the dearly departed (if you truly loved Prince) can not be denied even if they are ignored. It is easy to say what difference does it make now - he's gone. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

The only "deluge of unauthorized material" I've seen is YouTube vids and the crappy shirts that people are selling on Facebook.
Did a bunch of new audio leak or something?

As Prince fan I'm thrilled some videos are back on YT. And I hope other people can finally see how great he was live!! DMSR in Detroit, Jazz festival, Superbowl, Livesexy....
On the otherhand it sometimes doesn't feel right because I know he didn't like it. Still, it's the best way 2 keep his legacy alive.
When asked about the vault he said it belonged 2 the world when he's gone...maybe this also concerns his videos? Love4oneanother

What I wonder about, is that Prince clearly had people policing all this stuff and getting everything taken down. After he passed, did whoever he employed to do such things simply stop? Did they decide to allow it in tribute? Will someone eventually shut everything down as Prince did?

It is easy to say what difference does it make now - he's gone. If you want to be really strict with it one member said that every thing released after Prince died is going to be a bootleg. Because it wasn't authorized by the man himself. Yikes. I take youtube as a "consolation". I won't ever get to see him again. But I can watch diamonds and pearls like when I was 6 and watched it on mtv (hint: they stopped playing him on mtv) and cry about why is this man gone You would take this consolation from us all. Prince believed in the Bible and the Bible says dead men have no plans. If you let that sink in for a second that is the polite way of saying when you're gone, what you want doesn't matter anymore. He can't take money with him either if it's on that principle. Even though I always disagreed, I respected it because he was alive to be annoyed by it. I can't annoy him anymore with my disagreement. And of course I'd rather have him back, pay for concert tickets as before and banish all youtube rips. But I can't have that. To continue banning it on YouTube out of misplaced sensibilities is just asinine to me. And clearly unhelpful to our grief. This kind of thing has happened to me before where I've had to go against a dead man's wishes. Even though my family was low income my husband would not let us apply for food stamps out of pride. So I had to coupon and really budget even though with 2 kids making $1995 a month we definitely qualified for the maximum. So he died suddenly guess what I did? Frickin food stamps. Oh and I bawled my eyes out knowing I was going against his/our self sustainability wishes. But he wasn't freaking here to help me. I asked my dad "How can I go against what he wanted?" which is when he popped open a bible and read that dead men make no plans and he told me to go feed my kids, obviously. As for the vids, I say great. They are the single biggest thing that is showing the curious what they've been missing, nobody is losing $ and as of yet, there is no "authorized" way of checking them out. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

The only thing that I don't like about the youtube vids are the few that are protected and therefore cannot be saved to my hard drive.. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

The only thing that I don't like about the youtube vids are the few that are protected and therefore cannot be saved to my hard drive. I have yet to encounter non-downloadable content on YouTube. If there's an existing url, the video can be downloaded to your hard drive.

Prince is no longer here to make money from his work, so I don't really see a problem. The wooh is on the one!

This right here has been my way of dealing with his passing. So many shows I've known about for years but have never seen makes it all a little easier. Especially all the live shows that are out there! Just WOW! Makes me appreciate him all the more now. I hope it's the families wishes to keep these up for a while or at least back off for a little bit while we all grieve.
Curious as to what many here think are the crucial sets of live shows etc to catch while they are now playing??? [Edited 5/7/16 7:48am] The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Prince has no problem with fans sharing his music ... Never did ... Prince has handed out freely many unreleased gems with the intent if fans sharing ... Much like the lyrics to lavaux state ... Prince hated that his tax dollars pay for war and murder and sketchy cops and corrupt government and subsidizing racists and poison foods and water .. Prince wanted all his money to go towards the right ideas and peoples ... YouTube was making money off prince .. He didnt like it .. Had prince let the bootlegs run free , many sketchy people would have made my ney off of him against his wishes ... As it is only the real fans dug deep enough to hear the unreleased material and nobody really was able to exploit prince for profit That said .. It is well within prince intent to freely share bootlegs .. However clicking on youtube videos only makes youtube more money which is against prince wishes So share freely but don't give evil corporations anymore money ... Stop watching youtube and dont buy anything that comes out

Then he should have made a will.

They can't let stuff be free online because if we want to keep Paisley Park open as a museum they will need to do whatever they can to make money. This will mean his videos and stuff will either go on a site his estate controls for a fee or they will make a YouTube dedicated to him where they can make money from ads. As it turns out his estate isn't worth THAT much. He always had financial problems as I recall and with like 30 relatives coming out the woodwork to claim their piece of his pie- we will have to pay for everything to keep his legacy alive. I will do so gladly. And as far as the unauthorized stuff, they will all eventually get sued once the more pressing matters get settled. I just saw some film taking pre-orders for July. I came here to see what the org said about it and looks like it was out in 2008 and the orgers said it was horrible. Well it's been repackaged and it's being released like its some definitive bio. I hope they get sued too. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

His estate is worth billions going forward from just the royalty checks alone. Bring into the equation any vault material, meuseum, etc, and that billions is arrived at even faster. Think of the payroll he had when he was alive to deal with, 95%+ of that payroll will be gone, now it is just money coming in. Since his passing the sales have already juiced up his estate value significantly.

I don't know which is more incredible. The amount of unauthorised material, or the amount of views everything is getting. Millions and millions in just two weeks. I've seen things I'd never seen before. ONA TRC tour in Japan for example and the full 2009 Montreux Jazz Festival. . I always thought Prince was a genius but I think I underestimated him. His concert skills and talent just surpass anything I've ever seen from one person before. Jaw dropping. . But it is sad that all of sudden his absence has opened a floodgate and that the amount of views is earning money for someone other than him. But maybe this is what he knew would happen. If he hadn't made up a will at this time, I wonder if he ever would have. . Hopefully in a month it will have quietened down, but I don't see how the Web sheriff could keep up. Impossible. It's an ocean out there and it's all Prince. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
