Obviously none of you are painters. If you knew the kind of time and effort it takes to paint something like that you wouldn't trash it whether you disliked it or not. I can tell that the artist put forth the effort and I never write a work of art off after one encounter. (If I did I would never have appreciated Parade, Lovesexy, TRC or Emancipation). If this were merely a few splashes of paint on canvas which you couldn't discern unless the "artist" told you what they were supposed to represent then maybe I would give quick judgment; but even in that case I wouldn't simply trash the person's work. I'd keep those negative thoughts to myself.
For the record I'm not the artist and nor do I know him/her. I just feel for them and know what it's like wanting others to feel about your art as you do. Besides it's been my experience that anything I've liked off the bat-- women, paintings, songs, etc.-- 9 times out of 10 turn out to be passing fancies. Those things that took time to grow on me stay with me a life time. |
