Vapid radio/pop makes me miss Prince more

As a novice high school musician, Prince's intoxicating musicology made radio — aside from a small handful of old school classics — listenable and he was the only artist/musician/band leader/composer/lyricist/comedian who could reliably turn out entire albums of fresh diverse interesting music. Even the sour notes made things interesting in retrospect. making it easier to appreciate the great albums.

Most recent hits from other top artists who take their minimal talents way to seriously really just hurt my ears in contrast.

Between the lingering sadness of him no longer being with us, the burgeoning cottage industry of frivolous tabloid stories attempting to demean him just to sell ads, I'm almost resigned not to listen to music at all and just focus on great books and volunteer work.

The sad thing is there's tons of great music being produced right now, what you hear on the radio is just a small sliver that corporations think will appeal to 12 year olds. The hardcore music fans have moved onto streaming, mp3 players, etc..

If you love music you'd already be listening to 6Music. Check out the catchup feature. Iggy Pop's show is always entertaining as is Guy Garvey's. And the Craig Charles' Funk n Soul Show is unmissable in my house smile

Listen to Emily King. PHENOMENAL artist. Not Prince but that doesn't matter. Artists should not be compared in that sense anyway. I recommend listening to Good Friend, U and I, and Down first. All of her music is wonderful though. Sad thing is, there are tons of great artists out there. They just aren't mainstream.

Haven't heard it on the radio though.
