Princes past few years

Sorry, I'll be honest. I just didn't like the 3rdeyegrl experiment.
I am sure that the microphone and piano tour would have been groundbreaking had he not been taken too early...

But i still prefer the npg horns O(+-> stage version of Prince live. The welcome 2 America/musicology type concert. He looked like he was having fun onstage.

I didn't have to fortune to witness the piano and mic tour in person only the clips online....and he seemed so serious...

Thanks for listening

You see, he played 27 instruments not 28. Cowbell was not amongst his repertoire.

Yes well...next you'll announce that you've been playing cowbell since you were four and well...in sure you're quite adept at it but unless it's blue oyster cult there's little market for your talents. I don't think that Prince ever used a cowbell sound on any of his recordings.
You should start a thread about it.

I loved 3rdeyegirl live, even if Plectrumelectrum wasn't good...

Yes I figured he was pretety much semi-retired the last few years and was mainly doing fesival shows in Europe for the $. I haven't liked any of his albums much since 2009. but the Piano and Microphone tour was something different and very exciting as a P fan. I wanted to see more shows but just didn't work out. sad

3rd Eye Girl were great live... and I much prefered their rock versions of classic tracks to the jazzy Musicology era "lounge singer" versions, TBH.

3rdeyegirl's live shows in London were monstrous. I think a live 3rdeyegirl DVD or CD (Montreux, Shepherd's Bush, the whole of Paisley Park Dance Rally 4 Peace) would make people appreaciate them a lot more. Plectrumelectrum wasn't a good reflection of their live power. I wonder what their other studio material sounds like.

Hear...hear. I was lucky enough to see the Shepherds Bush gig, so refreshing for him to take another direction - smoke machine gushing out 3 hours of deep rocking grooves. Easily one of my fave gigs ever.

They were a fantastic live show. The album did not capture it.

I liked them as a live band. Maybe Prince should´ve played a little bit more guitar with 3rdEyeGirl because sometimes Donna was a little bit too much in the foreground but I much preferred 3rdEyeGirl over the umpteenth big band with a horn section sound. Not that that was bad, but I like Prince´s minimalist approach.

They were a bit like the female version of the NPG Power Trio.

NOTHING could ever have come even close to Prince-Sonny-Michael, but 3rdEyeGirl was pretty good.

Ultimately some fans aren't as into the guitar stuff as others, I thought the 3rd Eye Girl live band were fantastic myself; totally raw, and yeah that included the occasional mistake or misstep. I'm cool with that. I'd rather mistakes than soulless technically perfect vamping.

I do wish he had done something on record with the 20 piece big band NPG though, I know there was talk of an album, it's probably in the vault somewhere : (

i thought the third eye girl era was great. they had a good chemistry and put out some really good work together, imo. but, one thing i loved about prince was the way he kept it moving, never staying in one place for too long. i was also looking forward to his next projects.. .
