not bad, i loved the part where Prince turned on him. ivory's book was the first I read on Prince, although not the best book, surprisingly good for what looked to be a gushing fan book for girls to read, it wasn't. Also interesting how much Prince kept tabs on what people wrote. He always gave the impression that he was aloof in those years in fact, he never seemed to really respond when former employees and workers would spill the beans or say nasty things, he usually just kept quiet.

Black Beat & Right On, those were the days! "We just let people talk & say whatever they want 2 say. 9 times out of 10, trust me, what's out there now, I wouldn't give nary one of these folks the time of day. That's why I don't say anything back, because there's so much that's wrong" - P, Dec '15

he has a point how black stars would dog out the black mags like they were too good for them. But in some ways, those mags were no better than tiger beat, you know, not serious publications. Anyway, Prince made it up later on. I still have a great mag on Prince from the Purple Rain Days, i'll never part with it. It's kind of a fan girl magazine but it has some interesting stuff in it.

Yeah, they got blanked a lot. They were great fun tho. I had those 2 & many other mags reserved for me all over London. Great times. Ivory was starting to sound like he wanted to get with Prince with all the talk about how good he smelled and looked. I guess he looked into his eyes like Jamie Foxx did. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

That was a long read. I couldn't work-out if he actually liked Prince, or just found him irritating.

That was a great read. Loved reading the "early years" backstage story. Would love to read more stuff like that.

Thanks for sharing. Great read. I think Ivory's description was for the ladies for sure. My imagination was working with those words. lol

I remember when Steve's visit to Paisley Park was a cover story in Black Beat magazine. This was during the D&P era.In the article,Prince got a major "attitude",lol. He was downright rude to Mr.Ivory.It was an interesting read.

Back in the day,I collected issues of Black Beat magazine. It was a very good, informative mag focusing on R&B artists. And yes,Steve makes a valid point about how some of the big "crossover" black artists treated the black media once they made it big.

wouldn't doubt it, stories from that era and before are not too flattering as far as Prince as a person. But now, post-death, we are hearing more about his good side which is a treat. Dude gave a lot and not for any fanfare or any credit. MJ gave and wanted the guinness book record for it, Prince did just the opposite.
