Well for starters the followed his JW beliefs. Secondly the family is financially responsible for it and they don't have his money so they had to do it as they could afford. It had to be quick as you have to pay for them to hold a body and burials are obscenely expensive.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

First thought was it might have been required because of his religious beliefs.

I'm guessing the fact that cremation allows the location of his remains to stay private was the main factor.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I asked my co-worker about this, as she was born and raised a JW. She said this is false, that they do NOT require cremation, one is free to choose that or burial. I'm guessing maybe he had casually discussed it with family or close friends in the past or Tyka just made the decision based on what she wanted if she had no other instructions. They probably just wanted to avoid the inevitable media circus it would have created having his body lying in wait or finding a burial spot.

when my dad died he wanted to be cremated, my mom decided against it. they were divorced too. In P's case who knows. A grave would be nice but he is a superstar. Here in Seattle you had some maniacs steal the headstone off of Bruce Lee's grave and rumor has it that he's entomed in cement. Don't know Tyka's reasons but she probably had some.
