Why end memoir with Super Bowl? Since he announced his memoir he said it would go through the Super Bowl.
I've always been perplexed why he'd want his story to end with Super Bowl?
Prince always seemed to be in the now and I'd think he'd want his story to continue to the present day; Piano and Microphone, new albums, etc. But not in this case.
Thoughts? Ideas? Why he wanted that to be "the final chapter?" [Edited 5/3/16 18:17pm] [Edited 5/3/16 18:17pm]

Maybe his health started to go down hill or something very personal happened to him soon after and he didn't wanna get into that.

I just imagine it as either a good ending point (where would you have it end? 3rd eye girl jamming at Paisley Park) OR I truly dont think Prince knew he was going to die. So a second memoir 25 years from now? We all know intellectually we are going to die. But it is hard to picture our own selves coming to an end.

The Super Bowl performance was getting a lot of love from ESPN a few months backk (I think it was ESPN, I don't have a tv) and being called the best halftime ever, so I imagine he was reveling and saw it as a late-career high (goodness knows he had a few).

Most publishers want the first autobiography to end on a high note while also leaving room for another book if sales are good.

Exactly. No book covers everything top to bottom. Ending with the Super Bowl performance is a really good place to end it, actually. It definitely is a high note. While there's been a lot of life since then, you can't document all the mundane and expect to sell a book. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Plus it was in 2007. The number 7 was really important for Prince.

You've got to give yourself an end point. Otherwise where do you stop? The day you write the last page?

Perhaps you've not heard of an album called The Rainbow Children, which is basically a JW praise album, Prince style. That's when he stopped cussing. Even he said he spent most of the couple of years prior studying the bible more with Larry Graham. . Even as far back as 1999, he said he was going to take that year off instead of engulfing himself in the 1999 hysteria. He released "1999 The New Master" in Februar", and practically disappeared until Rave Un2, which dropped at the end of the year. He said he backed off and just studied and did other things for most of the year. (As a side note: He had no tour dates from the very end of 1998 until November 2000. There were one off dates throughout 1999 just at Paisley Park, plus Mill City, one in Vegas, and a couple of other random dates. Out of 365 days, that is minimal for ol' boy.) . Graham was around in 1998, and no doubt the JW teachings started then. But TRC was definitely a moment when he had fully embraced the JW belief system. He said, around that time, that Larry Graham had helped make a lot of things clearer for him. . And frankly, he was trying to get everyone baptized. Morris Hayes said that he ended up kind of leaving the band, again, because of the religion thing with Prince. Prince wanted everyone to believe just as he did. Hayes didn't feel that pull, and left. . You are correct to say he probably recommitted. But he sure didn't drift that far away before Graham boomeranged his butt back to home base. LOL Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Because he sang Purple Rain in the rain. What better way to end it than that?

Because it ended in 7? I didn't know either but the replies here are convincing. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -
