Purple Rain Tour Injury

I read a report that Prince suffered an injury on the Purple Rain tour that eventually, after many years, led to the hip replacement surgery that may or may not have taken place in 2010. Anyone have any more info on this? That would seem to be an awfully long time to deal with something like that.

No, you didn't read that.

.

What Sheila E. said was that he did suffer from pain. She used the Purple Rain Tour, which she was part of, as an example of where that paint probably came from. He jumped off risers a lot on that tour, in those damn heels he wore. (Not that he wasn't already doing that on previous tours.) The example is that over time, those sorts of stunts can build up in your body, and you suffer more and more damage. It will eventually take its toll. Same with doing the splits. One of the last times I remember Prince doing the splits was on the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 DVD. I never saw it on the Musicology Tour, nor the 02 shows in London.

.

As far as more info - read the Org. These things have been covered ad nauseum in the last 13 days.

Thanks for your reply, but I actually did read that- it's on the Rolling Stone Magazine site- I'm sure it was due to wearing heals and the way he performed for such a long time, but I was wondering if there was something specific that happened during the PR tour.

There was a performance during the Purple Rain tour in which he caught his foot on something (a mic cord, IIRCC) and struggled to catch himself. It looked extremely painful in the moment.

But I'm sure he had a lot of injuries that accumulated over the years. (He hurt his foot during the JOTY tour, for example.) I doubt that his pain was attributable to one incident, in particular.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

To say it was one injury three decades ago is a big insane of R.S.

The Rolling Stone story said nothing definitive:

His dynamic stage shows had not been without a price – sources say he had hip problems, possibly dating back more than 30 years to injuries sustained during the Purple Rain tour.

it said this though

ording
to Prince biographer Alex Hahn, on April 21st – exactly 20 years before his death
– after what seemed to be
one of his marathon three-
day working sessions, Garcia found him passed out in the Paisley Park studio. He was brought to the hospital, but
when he regained consciousness, he wouldn't stay.

One singular injury no....reptitive stress which leads to a breakdown overtime of the joints: yes.

Just walking in heels daily like Prince did - I know women who have had foot surgery before the age of 30 simply from wearing heels all day and just WALKING.

Prince did the equivalent of two football games inheels whenever he performed.

Thats the intense amount of athletics that his touring amounts to - add the repetitve stress of PLAYING AND PRACTICING THE INSTRUMENTS. Everyone forgets about that part.

Music is PHYSICAL ACTION THAT CAUSES REPTITIVE STRESS. Over time it spirals because once the pain is ever present you start doing things subconsiously to accmodate it and everything is connected.

Whicj means once your left knee hurts ...your right hip accmodates - then your back feels it, then your shoulder etc etc
