Live Music Therapy

Has anybody else been listening to alot of live recordings since he passed? I find myself listening to concert after concert, tour after tour, aftershows, soundchecks, etc... (thank God for bootlegs!). I don't know if it's the atmosphere of the performance or sound of the audience and him feeding off them or what. The music just sounds so alive and makes me feel a little better.

Yeah...Watched "Ritz-80", "Houston 83" and listened to "Neon Rendevous" earlier. It's helping me get through.

Strangely enough, no! I've listened to Joy In Repetition and The Love We Make from the North Sea Jazz Festival because I love those songs and a few clips on youtube but other than that... No. I only want to hear his albums right now. Maybe because a live recording (especially of a concert you've been to) would bring back too many memories?

Not yet. But "A Beautiful Night" will be the first. Song took care of me when I lived 300 or so miles from home.

I played Something In The Water from the 1985 Miami soundcheck in the green room of the play I'm doing last Friday night before we opened. Everyone else in the cast looked like this --> eek (in a good way). I was so happy I could share that with them.

When it comes to Prince bootlegs, I am a digital hoarder. If I come across a stash of bunch of boots I grab them all, back them up to a hard drive, and check them out one at a time at my leisure. Sometimes (often) I forget about something and it's years before I get around to listening to it, or in this case, watching it...

I just discovered I already have something that I've actually been looking to acquire recently (LOL at myself). I can't believe I've had the Club Nokia show for several years and never watched it. This is truly a fantastic performance. I'd heard it before but IIRC it was an audience recording and nothing really grabbed me. I've been missing out. This is fantastic!!

cool

Watching it now. Pro-shot. And even though Prince is complaining on the mic about the sound, it sounds GREAT to me.

One of the greatest moments in Prince live music IMHO is the Nokia show when the person shouts "Chaos and Disorder" and Prince says, "What do you want to hear?" and the person shouts back "Chaos and Disorder!" and Prince rips into it. That man's reaction is just spine-tingling.

And that man is an Orger! (It's not me, and I'll let him disclose his identity if he wants.)

"Return To Zenith" in Paris, 1998.
"Love Thy Will B Done" only is perfect in times like these, but the whole evening is white heat.

There are many great shows, but not all are transcendent. This one is.

Actually, the audio on this was WAY better than what I've heard before. Maybe I was listening to the wrong bootleg. Might have to rip the audio for the iPod... music

Since I'm on this live kick, I'll be sure to add that one to the list. Thanks for the tip.

Can anybody recommend any Act I, Act II or Jam Of The Year Tour shows? I don't think I have any soundboard for those tours and would love some suggestions.

That is a good one, as is the 2nd Night, 1st Show.
I was at the 2nd show on the 1st night, but only the 1st show from each night has surfaced... ARRRGH!!

I would so love to have a soundboard recording of a show I was at. I have audience recordings of 2 shows I was at and they sound pretty bad... sad

"Shark Tank", Musicology Tour, San Jose, CA.

The acoustic guitar medley is almost flawless (I would ditch "Alphabet St." and "Adore"), and it has an astounding "Hit The Road Jack" aimed at George Bush.

The whole show is a good picture of the quality of the Musicology Tour.
