Blade Runner I have seen several places that Prince once admitted that the movie Blade Runner influenced "the sound and look" of the 1999 album. Is this true? Do we have an original source for this comment?
Old .org threads mention the comment, but do not give a citation for the source.

I haven't seen a source for it but it would make sense being the movie coming out earlier in 1982 and Vangelis using Oberheims and a LM1 and apparently Prince being a movie buff. Plus all the Neon in the movie.
That and some of Gary Numans look, sound and stage setup probaly had a lot of influence on the whole 1999 concept. [Edited 5/4/16 11:15am] 'Somewhere in Uptown'

I remember his influences at the time involved Gary Numan and Blade Runner.

The influence seems obvious in hindsight. An interview with Prince making comments about it is casually mentioned in several places, but I can't seem to find the actual interview or an original source for his comment.
