Working with George Benson? I love listening to George Benson and saw him in concert in LA once, going backstage afterwards which was fun. Some friends of mine knew him and his family. Great guy, really down to earth. Fantastic concert too. So today I got thinking.. Did Prince and George ever do anything together? I would love to hear that.

They were friends through JW circles. I also recall one of his albums being made at Paisley...I have to research.

George Benson gave Prince one of his Ibanez signature series guitars, I think it was even signed by Mr. Benson on the back. Prince played that guitar for a while in the late 90s/early00s. And at that same time (1996), George Benson recorded his "That's alright" album at PP, with the help of some Prince associates like the Peterson brothers and Eric Leeds. One of the songs is called "P Park". No input from Prince on that cd, unfortunately, although it is highly likely that they met during the recording sessions... In the last weeks I read somewhere (think it was here) that it was actually George Benson, not Larry, who introduced Prince to JW...

I read on the org (a few years ago) that George and P had a falling out around 2000-2001. One of the orgers met him and asked about him and P collaborating and George's tone turned sharp and said;"Don't get me started on that guy".....I was surprised to hear that because as the OP said George is a cool guy. It would have been nice to hear them play on a CD together...I also read recently that George thought P (before Larry) wasn't studying the Jehovah religion too seriously.

Any Prince fan with an interest in Benson should definitely check out his 1996 album "That's Right" Not only was it recorded at Paisley Park (even has an instrumental titled P. Park) but features NPG members Michael B and Tommy as well as Ricky and Paul Peterson. No Prince, but surely his spirit on this album. George's style is so distinctive and I think he influenced some of Prince's sound -- see Clockin' The Jizz, Get Wild Moneymaker Radio edit. Didn't Prince record 'Glasscutter' in George's home studio in Hawaii? It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

I've always thought the unreleased NPG track, 'Parlor Games', is very Benson-esque: ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

i don't know but i always thought Prince had to be a fan from some of his jazzy meanderings on guitar.
