One could hope, especially C&D & TVOFFS since they were WB releases. Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

You are correct, when CD's came out in the late 80's we marveled at how much better they sounded than our records and tapes. They seriously did for the level of detail.
We couldn't afford a $1000+ record player and soundsystem like Makintosh... but what people don't say is that if you play a CD through a $1000 player and a great sound system, it sounds great too.
there's a lot of innacuracy in how a vinyl record reproduces sound, but that tone is akin to how people talk about liking film more than diigtal HD video.
But in fact digital HD video has surpassed film in terms of the information it can store, and you can artificially make it look like film with the pleaasant "warm" defect visual artifacts of film, like grain, and characteristic color tone. (I used to shoot with film, both motion and stills.)
Same with digital recordings. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I got originals of everything up to Diamonds & Pearls. The Black Album is definitely tempting, though.

Same with digital recordings. They're still mastering digital music for use in cars and laptops. They're supposed to sound "flat", to avoid competition from other sound sources, as well as hearing more details with a low gain. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

FlexiTime said: This is a serious question: what exactly is the benefit of vinyl? They didn't sound that great as child when I think back on it. Is it really sound quality or a nostalgic thing to buy them these days? You can't roll a joint on an mp3.

One can only hope the vinyls will be made out of the original analog masters. The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter

...but others on here have been criticising for years the lack of availability of Prince's back catalogue! I think WB are less deserving of scorn than some of the increased pricing in the second hand market in recent weeks, but, it's the world we created.

I can't imagine they'll use CD masters for the albums that were originally mastered for vinyl - that would be insane!
Having said that I would normally advocate picking up a good second hand copy over a remaster.
Has anyone actually compared the For You re-issue to an original pressing yet? Would be interested to hear their thoughts?

Surely all the fans have those already and they are still readily available. . No point really buying these as you may as well buy the CH. . . Most of mine are still sealed so I don't know what these will offer. . Oh well. .

I'll probably only buy Diamonds and Pearls and Symbol as those are the albums I don't have on vinyl cus when they were released vinyl was dying out to CDs. Oh and possibly the Black Album too because to get a non boot version of that is rather difficult and expensive. Other than that I have most already.

Yes... I posetd this yesterday...
I'm for this in general, but I wish they'd be more informative/transparent about what exactly they're releasing... they should be clearly stating whether these are remastered or not, and if so, by whom...
I bought the new release of For You on vinyl the other day. I can't remember what the CD sounded like as I sold it years ago... but I have a nice original vinyl copy of the album. I have ripped both and today did an A-B comparison and I couldn't tell the difference!
My ears might not be the best in the world, but I would think if it had actually been remastered and not re-pressed, I would be able to notice something.... I couldn't.
Not saying it's not remastered, just saying I couldn't tell the difference between the new one and the original.
In terms of the sleeve, it's not brilliantly reproduced, the front image being too dark and dingy compared to the original.... and on the spine, at the bottom it reads Warner/NPG, which is clearly the result of the deal that our man did with them a couple of years back... [Edited 5/3/16 14:03pm]

Thanks for the info... In a way, I'm glad to hear this! I think up to Lovesexy, maybe Batman or GB, I'd prefer a re-pressing as opposed to a re-master. I think by D&P the mastering was geared towards CD and I'd guess the vinyl edition of this and would probably benefit from a sympathetic remaster on vinyl. Completely agree about the transparency point you made. Look at how the Beatles re-masters project was dealt with - that's the level of respect this work should be getting...

Actually, the supposed reason the CD's were dull up until 1989 or 1990 was because they were using the vinyl masters to make the CDs. We're guessing that there were no masters for the CDs of Prince'salbums before that. And a seperate master is required because....
Vinyl masters have to be sort of mixed with a demphasis on certain bass frequences and dynamic range in order to physically not make the needle jump, and to fight the certain frequency bias that the mechanics of vinyl tech emphasizes. The masters are made to compensate, and will sound correct on vinyl, but will sound inccorrect if transferred to the super accurate sound of a CD.

Does anyone know if these reissues are being transferred from the original analog 2 track reel-to-reel masters? If WB is making these reissues from a digital master, it is a profound waste of time & a sad cash grab by them.

I have just spent the last 2 years picking up 2nd hand copies and new ones of dirty mind, pr, controversy,1999. Just missing the first 2 releases which I am now picking new with the latest reissue. It took me a long time to track down parade and symbol at very reasonable prices. I might buy some again if they are 180 gm pressings. I will definitely buy the black album and D&p as these are the only warners albums I am missing. I only have lotusflower post warners. I am really hoping these will come out. I'll be first in the queue to buy the rainbow children.
