What posthumous release should be first?

Oddly enough, I want something that isnt likely. I want every music video that Prince ever made in one big ass collection.

I'm not sure and not that far ahead in thinking yet. But I do think there should be a YEAR of respectful silence for this big loss. Nothing for at least a year.

We're looking at at least a year, a good six months for Estate and Catalog ownership to be assigned (assuming no will surfaces) then a good six months of assembling material and striking a deal for a release, then maybe even more time for mastering etc.

PR remaster with a disc or 2 of unreleased tracks from that era. That would be a good place to start.

(Insert something clever here)

I'm also thinking a "known" unreleased album will be first out when the time comes - maybe Dream Factory.

The final Atlanta Piano & Microphone concert. I think that one -- his "last" concert -- would resonate with the public.

Hit N' Run Phase 3, or Free Urself, or whatever his next studio album was going to be.

Then, Roadhouse Garden to capitalize on the Purple Rain nostalgia.

But, I think a video collection would be great - especially considering that it can be "FINAL" in that there won't be anymore coming.

Oh I disagree^^ Prince toured constantly. He was devoted to his fans - selling tickets for $10 though he may have needed the money. I'd say dedicate an album to each one of the organizations and foundations he gave monies to and release one each month. Let the proceeds go 50/50 to that organization/foundation and the other half to Paisley Park Museum operations.

And I'm sure he has music written for/with his family...each sibling gets and album with an arrangement of their choice.

Oh Prince...he was probably frustrated to no end with everyone's wants and demands that he refused to care.

Prince mentioned releasing the Atlanta Piano show himself - it was something he wanted to do. I don't think it's disrespectful to make that happen.

I think we're all assuming that whoever eventually decides to release something knows which tracks belong with which

If someone like Susan Rogers or Wendy and Lisa are involved we may actually get releases as they were intended but I don't think we should count on it

Yes, this would make complete sense and can be legitamtely promoted as his last ever performance... It should sell well and make for good press.

Wendy and Lisa? What the fuck do they know now? They dont live at Paisley Park. Why are sycophants so stuck on this myth that they are much more than old associates? They are not muses or gurus for Prince. They worst thing that could happen to Prince material now is to have those 2 hags leech on and start implying that they had more to do with the great 80s material than they did - again.

Wow! calm down! haha

I just mean-if they are going to release stuff from the 80's then involve the people who were involved in the recording, playing or engineering of the music

If it's later material then get the relevant people for that

Don't just hand it over to a corporate who has no idea

At least one more 'new' album compiled from whatever good unheard stuff he recorded in the last couple of years. I'm not ready to consign him to 'archive' releases when there's probably at least one more record's worth of cool 'modern Prince' music in the Vault.

But not titled 'Hit & Run 3', give it it's own proper title, so as not to alienate new/ casual fans and market it as 'the final album'.

Having said that, unless he did record some recent stuff that is more thematically appropriate, I now consider AOA to be his last 'major album' and a fitting one at that.

His final show. Sounds like that was already in the works, so put it out.

Like it or not, Prince will now finally have a producer/producers. Someone who will sift through his archives and pick and choose his best material. This has never happened before. We could be in for a treat that way.

From a business perspective, the most obvious would be a Purple Rain remaster with at least one bonus disc of unreleased songs from that time period. Maybe something like:
Disc 1 - Purple Rain album (remastered)
Disc 2 - Unreleased material from that era Electric Intercourse etc.
Disc 3 - Other music from the movie, The Time, Appollonia, Modernaire, score music.
Disc 4 - Purple Rain movie (blu ray)
Disc 5 - A live show from the Purple Rain tour (blu Ray)

I'd buy that smile

Lisa would have memories of way more than Wendy - she was around a lot longer (in the beginning). I think they'd both have great knowledge up until they were fired. Dr. Fink and Sheila would be a great asset in the SOTT/Lovesexy era.

Same as how Sonny T. and Michael Bland would have great knowledge of the NPG era.

That's why I think that whoever is brought on to compile future releases, it should not be just a few people. It should be a team.

An expert team needs to be assembled to carefully curate the material in the Vault and present it appropriately.

My thought is that they should start at the beginning with deluxe editions of For You and Prince, with bonus discs containing unreleased material. I wouldn't bother with demos at least for now - there should be enough completely finished songs to use. The bonus material should be appropriate for that album - recorded around the same time and not used, or recorded around the same time and given to a protege artist. This process should continue chronologically, maybe 2 to 3 albums released at a time. There should be detailed liner notes and whatever information that can be included about each song.

In addition - there will sometimes be full new "albums" of material that go together logically, like a "Dream Factory" or other material like that. There might be songs that Prince compiled together as albums or at least compilations that can be presented as separate from any bonus editions. I'm not talking about early configurations of actual released albums, like D&P for instance. The songs from the early configurations could be included on the deluxe reissues of that particular album.

Third, there should be a separate constant stream of live archival live releases - similar to what the Grateful Dead has done. Keep them coming maybe quarterly - 4 per year - and skip around. Maybe start with a show from Purple Rain and then 4 months later something from One Nite Alone, etc.

Lastly, perhaps a final "ultimate" box set that contains demos, tracks too raw or unfinished for the deluxe editions, sketches, etc.

There is never going to be a way to release every note, nor would we have time to listen to it. But if handled properly, it will be a gold mine of musical riches.

I don't see it like that. We're just doing what we've always done, speculating on what's coming next, discussing what we'd like to see, wouldn't like to see and expect to see. We're doing it here because this is where we all are and this is what we do. Just sayin'... wink

if there are unreleased music videos + songs that there is some indication Prince would have wanted released or that have some extra relevance at this time I'd like to see a single released with a HD video and on the single have say 4 remixes done by his various band members from over the years
