Anyone surprised by lack of prince programmes on british tv?

I haven't seen anything...apart from all day music vids on music channels.

No. News of his death and tributes have been reported.

Yes. No purple rain or sign o the times. Even on sky arts which has shown sott in the past. Disgraceful " tribute" on one of the biggest shows... " later with hooks Holland"... An unknown dancing to an excerpt of I feel for u.... And a guy whose name escapes me singing a hugely rushed, edited version of purple rain... Even the music channels were playing the same 10 or so popular videos over and over ...😥

I think it's hard because Prince has made it so difficult for people to show his work....

Yes.

Though there has been the odd thing here and there. Sky Arts showed 'Sign 'O The Times' and the BBC repeated their 'Black Music Legends' programme on Prince. There was a discussion on 'Newsnight' on the Friday evening also.

It would have been nice to see some 'proper more lengthy discussion programme. Regarding the radio, BBC6 played entire programmes of his work I believe.

Though, as we all realise, he was a minority interest of sorts in recent years.

No, they suck, especially the goddamn BBC

They also repeated their BBC4 doc just after the news broke.

Yep the lack of tributes have been surprising. Sky Arts currently have SOTT on demand, Sings Prince and inside the Purple Reign on BBC iPlayer. Didn't MTV Music show Art of Musicology? If so I missed that. Apart from 2 hour tributes the day after P passed there's been no real tributes on MTV UK et AL. I'm sure that Channel 4 could have shown the Night 4 the Artist again - after show, Mel B interview and clips when he was Tora Tora on one of their shows. I think there's a BBC Arena doc too. Maybe Spike Lee or Kevin Smith will make a Prince documentary and the BBC will show it or Sky Arts?. Nothing from ITV at all, but maybe because he was never on one of their shows so they don't really have any footage.

Gregory Porter covered PR on Jules Holland.

Actually, bbc radio had numerous tributes on. And on iplayer they had princes vault doc and a couple of other things. You were looking on the mainstream bbc 1 or 2 to much. The only disappointment for me was the morning after on 5 live. Normally it gives good coverage but it was hardly touched upon that he had died. They were going on about Shakespeare all morning. When Bowie died its was like World war three had started, they was that much coverage on there none stop all day.

This sounds a bit morbid, and I loathe treating celebrity deaths as a popularity competition, but I do feel if Prince had died before Bowie, it would've made bigger headlines. I think there's been so many celebrity deaths recently that Prince's passing has just been lumped in with a lot of the others. I even saw someone say "Victoria Wood and Prince in the same week" the day after he died, which struck me as kind of sad. Nothing against Victoria Wood, but I just felt bad for Prince, because he's such a legend and he deserved better.

Great to see the TOTP The Holy River performance again after all these years.

You've got to remember bowie was British so naturally there would be more focus on bbc etc. However the Prince news has been much bigger than anyone thought it would be. Actually it's been huge...especially when it first happened.prince was loved in Europe.
Baby, you're a star.

Yeah the TV coverage has been a bit disappointing, but some good tributes on BBC radio. Huey Morgan on 6 music did a Prince tribute on Sat 23/4, and also Don Letts on 6 music on Sun 24/4. I don't have I player but I think these should be still available - at least in the UK

Yeah, the radio was saturated with Prince content.

I was kind of hoping that some TV stuff would be repeated, so that I could record it digitally.

They could of put the omnibus doc on again at least.

Youre kidding right?

Radio 1 played an hour of Prince on the 21st in the evening - and he hasn't been a Radio1 artist for many years.

Radio 1Xtra also did a tribute as have 6Music I think.

SOTT was on the TV at the weekend, they've repeated the Purple Reign documentary too. There's been plenty of coverage in my opinion

Here's a link to all the BBC content..

Lauren Laverne's Radio 6 show on the Friday morning after the announcement was great too: wall-to-wall Prince for 3 hours with People contributing stories of their connections with Prince.

Well-curated songlist too - not just the hits.

I was thinking the same thing. But I reckon they'll wait until his cause of death is confirmed so they can put something in it about how he died too.

I'd put good money on Channel 4 releasing something the same week about his life and last days. They're probably working on it right now.
