Why isn't "Cream" getting more play/sales? The Prince songs that are getting play right now are of course the Purple Rain Stuff and Kiss.
However, Cream isn't even on the list. Batdance, even for a number 1 song, it's understandable. TMBGITW?
But Cream was a catchy #1 hit.

They've been playing it a lot on SXM The Groove. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

They do. But if you look at the sales on Billboard and such, it seems to be nowhere.

...because news outlets have been pushing the '80s stuff and ignoring anything newer for the most part.
TMBGITW, Cream, even 7 deserve more attention.

I'm surprised it hasn't charted again in the UK as it's very Marc Bolan/T-Rexesque.

Cream is one of his least known hits. Other lower charting songs get way more recognition. Though, it may get a lot of play on the oldies pop station. I listen to the oldies R&B station. PRINCE: Always and Forever
MICHAEL JACKSON: Always and Forever ----- Live Your Life How U Wanna Live It

Why is Batdance and Beautiful Girl "understandable"? They were no 1 hits and among the best that Prince has ever made. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. PEACE

TMBGITW is out of print and not everyone has it in their library. I had to send it to a few radio friends for them to add it to their library. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Batdance was #1, Beautiful Girl was #2 as was U Got the Look. It's understandable because Batdance, while I LOVE the extended version/video, is seen by some as a "gimmick." Beautiful Girl, as someone wrote, not so available, and just not as embraced as the older tracks.

Yeah, it's funny, Raspberry Beret is more well-known up here than Cream. I love Batdance but it is gimmicky and its moment was 27 years ago. A casual listener might be like, "Who is Vicky Vale, why is Jack Nicholson on the radio?" My brother is a big shot at a Vancouver radio station where they play hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He said the day Prince died was a total nightmare because they obviously had to rearrange the whole day to play Prince songs as much as possible, and they had barely any in their catalog - retro hits stations tend to focus on BIG hits. Anyone want to be cynical and argue "The Most Beautiful Girl..." was a cash-in as he was breaking free from WB? He went his own way and definitely won that battle, and if you put "beautiful" and "girl" together in a song you're pretty much guaranteed a giant hit all the office ladies will want to jam along to in the afternoon. I think he had a good sense it'd be huge.

For U Got the Look being a #2, I have never heard it on the radio anywhere (or in a club, or any other establishment...)

He made sure it was a hit. From the Quincy Jones ad in Billboard, to the "Eligible Bachelor Seeks Most Beautiful Girls in the World" personal ad, to supposedly making it 99 cents so it'd hit big and the video, the Remixes, etc. etc.
