Future Soul Song is one of his best ever tracks, and probably the best song he did from 1997-2016. (As such, as the odd man out, I'm voting it as the track Prince wanted to remove) The rest of the album is pretty awful. For me it's the lowest point of his career, with the only comparable albums coming the year before (Lotus, MPLSound). It's telling (for me) that of the eight post-3121 releases, the two best (Plectrum, AOA) were the only two with normal, worldwide CD releases.

FUTURE SOUL SONG & STICKY LIKE GLUE in my opinion are 2 of his best tracks from the 00's era.

I still have trouble calling 20Ten an actual album because it's so random. It's more like a mixtape than an actual legit album IMO. I do enjoy 'Lay It Down', 'Sticky Like Glue', and 'Sea of Everything' but the rest of the songs are pretty forgettable. I think he wanted to pull the album because he wanted to take 'Future Soul Song' off of it because it's such a great song and it overshadows the rest of the disc. I love that song and think it's one of the best songs he's made in the 00s. I think it would have been much better on AOA. Prince Rogers Nelson

MinorG said: In the souvenir tribute the Mirror put together there is an interesting tidbit in one of the articles. The writer was a journalist for the Mirror who was invited to Paisley Park so the main article describes this, but it ends as follows: I hope it wasn't future soul song or sea of everything, they're my favorite songs on the cd. 'A few days later, on returning to London, I got a clearer idea of why he had managed to fall out with so many people in the entertainment industry. Prince, who was renowned as a perfectionist, tried to force us to scrap the album - apparently because he had gone off one of the tracks - but the cds had already been pressed and we had watertight contracts.' So 20ten was almost a second black album! Which song do you think prince had a change of heart over? Everybody loves me? Never heard this info before, it may explain why 20ten never got a USA release. You and me are like two ships passing
Never reaching shore If we ever, ooh, if we ever did We'd just want more

I don't mind the album, except for Sea of Everything, that song is just horribly bland. RIP

databank said: And next thing u know he wanted to release 20ten Deluxe... Hard to say what happened but the record was released by so many different magazines I think it may have been an issue P had with the Mirror rather than with the album itself? Thing is we have a shitload of stories about the first 10 to 15 years because musicians and engineers and other collaborators spoke, while later they were stuck by confidentiality agreements. Now anyone can speak and hopefully the next few years will see an amazing amount of information and stories appearing in regards to P's later career. Imagine getting as much info about 1996-2016 sessions as we do about 1978-1995 (and already there's less data when it comes to the early 90's). We'd need another Per Nilsen to go through all of that!

I think like most albums Prince released from the mid 90s onwards there are some great songs but surrounded by weaker songs and even some not good songs (few terrible songs though IMO). Intriguing.. I'll be listening to it again to check this out. Love the album BTW. Glad he didn't get his way on this occasion.

I don't believe this - watertight contract our not, Prince would have sued them

FUTURE SOUL SONG and STICKY LIKE GLUE are some of the best songs he's recorded in years...
The rest of the 20TEN album is as bad as MPLSOUND... Not a good album at all.

Future Soul Song is intoxicating. Worth the entire album. (Insert something clever here)

Well for one thing now I am in doubt: I think it was Sticky Like Glue not Lavaux, I'm now confused, sorry. The source is one orger whose name I forgot, who seems to have reliable sources at PP. Now he may have made it all up IDK, but the dude's infos overall seemed credible. It was in a thread not so long ago before P passed. I'm just conveying the info and I didn't mean toi imply it was confirmed, sorry, which is why I said "according to". P has a history of reworking old tracks so updating an old 80's track in the context of 20ten isn't totally extravagant. Hopefully at some point the content of the vault is properly studied and we'll have answers. Even if not everything gets released I think it is primordial that a proper inventory is made and made public. I vote for Act of God as the one he wanted to pull. I usually skip that one anyway so he might as well have. LOL Something about it doesn't sit right with me. The lyrics, not the music.

I think 20ten is a very strong album. I've loved it from the first listen.

I bet it was Sea Of Everything that he wanted to take off it.
Not sure what the psychology is behind this, but if this had a wider release I believe folks would have given this one more of a chance. It is an incredibly strong, coherent album with some extremely catchy songs imo.

I like 20ten. Beginning Endlessly, Laydown, Future Soul Song...the whole album gives me a happy, almost goofy vibe.

The possibilities for some of those songs were endless, especially with more instrumentation. There's a rehearsal clip of "Sticky Like Glue" on YouTube that hints at how much more funky that song can be with a full band. Speaking of which, the rap he dropped on the 20Ten version of "Sticky Like Glue" is so bad it nearly ruins the song. BTW, The cost of pressing CDs is so cheap I'm surprised that Prince didn't just agree to help cover costs for the repress. Seriously, it's pennies on the dollar minus the packaging costs, which were very minimal for 20Ten. It's a great, great album and deserves to be listened to loud. I think the fact that it was given away free cheapened it.. I think he wanted to take off Walk in Sand... Just a hunch, that one is my least favourite anyway.. "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

I said at the time it sounded like he was on meds when he recorded it. Now, I am sure I was right. There are so many problems with that album I can't possibly name them all.

Ugh. You guys are killing me. This is literally the only album I don't have access to. It's not on Tidal, and you can't purchase it legally anywhere else, only secondhand from someone who owns it for an exorbitant amount. "Everything that's in your heart, come what may
Even though his might get broken" RIP Prince
